I bought a 24 tooth chainring today as I couldnt find a 22t one.

Will it make that much difference or should I rather just not fit it, take it back and continue the hunt?

My cassette is an 11-34 I think.

Is this for your Granny?

Won`t make much of a difference, just make you a little stronger thats all :)

Thats a very small chainring for 1x10...

Small chainring for a fatboy! Thankfully its a 3x10!

But I do use the small gear a fair bit for crawling along paths while ascending.

on a serious note, surely you can manage on 30x22 for most of what you riding? then you'll be fine with a 24 up front, using the 34 at the back if you need (not exactly the same ratio, but close).

Blades at the front are 44,32,22

It was originally 44,33,22 but I wasnt going to pay twice as much for a middle blade with one extra tooth!

Oh well, for the sake of R90 I will give it a go!

you'll need about 8% more oomf in 24x34 than in 22x34 (if my rudimentary maths is right).

I suppose that means 8% less farting about when going uphill!

Also makes a diffs if you have a 26" or 29". For a 29" I would suggest a 11-36 at the back if you go 24 front. There are some steep climbs in the Magaliesberg. No shame in a 36 at the back.

Or you grow a pair and ride a 26-34 like me. :whistling:

Ha... Helpmytrap... You could really grow a pair and ride a 34 up front and a 20 on the back..... for everything.....

And while you're at it, swap your suspension for some rigids and you will have a real bike!

24/34 is fine if you want to be a pansy and have derailleurs and shifters and all that clutter..... :whistling:

(Aaand watch the angry responses!)
