Entry level Road Bike

Hi,

 

I'm looking for a size 58 road bike. My budget is about 10k - anything more and I will have to wait a month or two. I don't intend to spend much time on it - will mainly use it for the 94.7 and the occasional road race. My training will mostly be on MTB.

 

What will be good value for money in this range? I don't mind buying second hand. I've looked at the Chinese Carbon thread. That looks like heaps of fun, but a frame and set of rims will already cost about 12k, and that excludes all the accessories.

I got myself a Felt F95 for the occasional road race and to join my wife on her IM training rides.

 

got it for under R7k

I would spend a bit more than the Felt F95, and make sure you get at least a Tiagra Groupset or better yet 105. I would look at a second hand bike, it is a buyers market and you can get great value

What do you think of the Merida Race Lite 903? It comes with the Tiagra groupset, and I can get one for about R9250 (new). I'm still looking for good 2nd hand buys, but haven't seen 58s that I like yet.

I bought the Giant TCR 2 a few years ago, was about R8000 new, 9 speed Tiagra.

 

I absolutely love the bike, I was at the time swayed to the Giant because its colors were better than the other bikes in that price range, but boy am I glad I got the Giant.

Bought my wife the Juliet Ride lite 94 and she loves it. Paid 11 but it has 105 on.

Cant go wrong with that inho.

 

But whetever you get make sure there is a carbon fork(to absorb the rattle) and atleast tiagra. Then ur good to go
