Hi,

I am getting back into mountain biking. Need some advice with kit to suite my pocket:

1) Best Mtb Helmet (Budget R1500)

2) Best Mtb Shoes (Budget R1500)

3) Best computer (Budget R1000)

Thanks

1: Rudy Project Sterling

2: Whatever is most comfortable for you

3: Save up some more cash and buy yourself a Garmin Edge 500.

Or if you plan on getting lost in the bush then save up for a Garmin Edge 800 :whistling:

I recently got a pair of these Giro Privateers and am extremely happy with them. Very comfortable

1) Best Mtb Helmet (Budget R1500) - Bell, Giro are the normal guys. But take a look at Catlike as well. Pick the helmet that fits your head best. In my case it is Uvex. Comfort and safety trumps looks and specs any day.

2) Best Mtb Shoes (Budget R1500) - Comfort is key. Nothing wrong with the First Ascent and Olympic shoes, think they are about R800-900. I like my Spaz comp shoes. THey are around the R1100 mark.

3) Best computer (Budget R1000) - Any cheapie will work if you just want distance. Sigma's are great. I also suggest tht you save some money and buy a Garmin. A bit of patience here will payoff. That being said, I don't ride with a computer, track my rides using my phone and only know afterwards how long/fast/high the ride was. But riding on feel is not every one's cup of tea.

Enjoy it!

My 2c on the helmet issue:

Certain helmets are for certain heads.

Rudy just doesn't fit my head, Bell fits so well, it's as if it was moulded for me.

If you go with anyone of the known brands you'll be fine (one will work just as well as the other).

Thus go and fit them all and pick the most comfy one!

On number 2.

I've recently got the scott mtb pro shoes and very happy with them, Tread also gave them a good review in a recent issue

It depends on what you like (colour and shape) and if it fits.

I'd change it like that...

If not and you stick to your budget;

Rudy or Fox (depends what kind of riding you plan on doing)

Diadora have some good shoes. (Try Evobikes.co.za)

Little Knog setup will work.
