Crank styling is not to my taste, but it is a super crank by all accounts, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there are many alternatives for those who want a more conservative look.

FSA has gone the route of cutting down the number of arms as well. Also only accepts FSA made rings.

Great kit! I would love to "upgrade" to the new 11sp Shim. The ultegra is great value. I am just concerned about the angle of the cable at the rear der when running on the smaller cogs. Is it rubbing against the guide there, Gummi?

I currently ride DA 7800 and the smooth accurate shifting still more than makes up for the exposed cable look.

It's just to expensive and a hassle to service.

That's the same reason i drive German and not Italian :D

Bwahhhh, I've had enough Lancia's, Alfa's and Masa's and that much is true. I drive Nissan now and am in awe that I can go services without spending any coin at all. Let alone worry about if I turn the light on if every other electric component will stop working.

Campy thuough. Ouch. Never rode anything other than c-record in my early days. Since coming back there is a gnawing in my soul that even if I were to get to DA Di2 then I'd still hate myself for not stripping my ride and going full Italian. Italian: Cars = Sh*te. Groupo's = Workmanship (and they don't make fishing reels, they make brake parts for Ferarris).

I see CWC has the ultegra 6800 for R11500. CRC is R7660 odd so it will land below R9000. They don't have stock though but it sounds like a super price. I also checked the Force 22 and if you buy the separate parts from CRC it will probably land under R10 000

With the prices mentioned above is it really worthwhile buying the new DA or Red groupsets at double the price? Can the performance really be that much better?

Would like your opinion mr Bear :) (and others)

What I also found a classic was Commencal SA are having a big sale and dropping virtually nothing on price and on the very next page in the ads CRC are having a massive sale and cutting up to 50% all over the place including their full range of Commencal.

Having been back to the UK recently and with the shocking exchange rate SA > UK it was still an eye opener (again) to see how much cheaper kit was. I'm not blaming LBS for the hideous mark ups as there is duty, tax and the rest but the situation is so blatant that something has to give else everything will go off shore. Jeez, just look at the car market.

To save a few grams isn't worth the extra money. The difference in shifting is hardly noticeable.

I considered the DA 9000 but to be honest the Ultegra is almost on par.The initial cost is reasonable but the major cost is the spares for DA.

Some of the top local teams here are running Ultegra and they were on DA 7900.
