Thanks H. Definitely came off lightly there. I know you were somehow involved... maybe cos I was trying to ride at your pace.

Phoned the oke last night, "it wasn't my fault, i take no responsibility for the matter". This is gonna be fun.....

Spare yourself the headache and move on from it, lessons learnt re insurance, be happy you are alive, and that your kids still have a father.

Believe me, that's definitely been foremost in my mind - silently saying my thanks. Took an hour off this morning to have breakfast with my eldest, don't often get 1-on-1 opportunities.

But going to try submit a claim to get this sorted with his 3rd party cover. If it becomes too much of a headache, then will let it go, but worth a shot at least.

If I understand this correctly, the car going in the same direction as the cyclist stopped to allow another motorist to turn in front of him (so the cyclist was behind the car at that time),

then,

the cyclist goes past the stationary car (left or right, doesn't matter), and hits the car that was allowed through.

If that's the case, the cyclist caused the accident, and any insurance assessor with more than 3 hours experience will know it.

Hey Guys

Who on here has insurance on their bike?

My bike is worth around R8000... not sure if insurance would be worth it? Rather save up the extra cash?

I commute to work 3 times a week 30km one way that's apart from my weekend rides... so it's quite a lot of miles.

I've heard many who has insurance but I'm not sure who to go with and the price it will be?

Thanks!

I was in an accident in 2007 where a car coming from the opposite direction turned in front of me. It was one hell of a fight with the drivers insurance company but I finally was paid. But unfortunately I agree with Falco and you do seem to be at fault. Be thankfull if you can get away without having to pay for damages to the car.

Yeah, taking Karma's advice and moving on, lessons learnt with some school fees on the side. His car had a tyre mark on it. Those AM Classic's are like tin foil.

Speak to the Citec Guy....

If you say his name 3 times in a row......nothing happens.

...and their sideview mirrors tend to break off if you hold onto them to try and stay upright...

So I had my first cycling accident today. Ironically, it was on the road.

Heading down Bryanston drive past Riverside shopping centre towards the Spruit, a car heading up from the circle was turning right into the centre as I was heading down (a car heading in the same direction as me had stopped with a gap to let him through). Was not able to stop in time as he turned in front of me and connected with the front right. Somersaulted over the car, head first and then onto my back. All I can say is thank goodness for the helmet and backpack.

Will be going to the cop shop just now to open a case. I wanted to ask some advice from hubbers with regards to the situation - the driver was not able to see me, and I was probably going a little quicker than I should have, although I did have right of way (correct me if I'm wrong?). I don't have bike insurance. What should I do with regards to damage to the bike? Foot the bill myself or take it up with his insurance? Any other advice for what I need to do?

Correct me if i am wrong, but surely the vehicles heading in your direction had the right of way, regardless if someone "left a gap" for them as a courtesy, that driver is still responsible to make sure there are no other vehicles of any sort coming.

He was turning right across oncoming traffic

I tend to agree with you on this one

but proving guilt will be difficult if there weren't any witnesses- your word against mine
