Group Rides at Groenkloof

North Shore

Recommended Posts

Tired of riding Groenkloof alone, looking for training mates to ride at Groenkloof, or the surroundings area, 5-6 days a week for fairly long (50km) and technical riding: average around 20km/h around the nature reserve. A taste for post ride recovery beer will be a bonus. Roadies need not apply.

My Son and I ride from Rooihuiskraal most Sunday mornings, destination Groenkloof. Normally at a pace between 19 and 20 km per hour. Total distance is between 60 and 70km. You can hook up with us if you want (that is 1 day a week covered)

I've seen that adult male giraffe charge someone else off their bike before, and then guard the bike, it's the ostriches that scare me: had two very close calls.

Last week I turned around on two occasions for that bull - he was agitated and wouldnt give way. Ostriches also make me a bit edgy.

Saw 6 of them on sunday, we always seem to bump into then on the single tracks right after a corner. Must remember to give them more space........

Good thing it is not a 29" , it would have been destroyed . Dillon I also go that way from WierdaPark every sunday but go up old JHB road to monument and then down .

That Giraffe bull will come towards you and never back away so keep your distance - sorry but that photo is hilarious wonder where the owner went and how fast

We do a similar route down old JHB to the last robot before the monument, there we turn right into snake valley( lovely downhill single track on the left of the road), continue until botha Ave, there we turn left down to Groenies gate. Going home we hit old jhb.

He seems to be much more aggressive/protective towards groups of riders. He wouldn't let any of us pass for at least 20 minutes.

I am very interested. Do you ride in the mornings or PM and at what time? Will most probably be able to make 2 to 3 times a week.
