Hi Guys. Any advice on rim tape on my MTB, I am rolling with tubes. The rubber strip bust so I replaced it with duct tape, the tubes were getting punctured / pinched by the rim. The duct tape seems to be doing the job so far, I took the bike out for a 30k in the week and so far no problems. I've done some research and some guys advise not to apply duct tape due to the adhesive becoming unstable while others seem happy to recommend, I've heard about the gorilla tape, any thoughts? Still have six spare tubes at home so not too keen to convert to tubeless for now. Thanks.

I have some cheap duct tape that I have noticed after a while detoriates and the sticky glue stuff becomes manky and a nightmare to remove. Not sure on the Gorilla stuff though, maybe just buy some new rim tape, I dont think its that expensive.

Otherwise some decent electrical tape prehaps?

I use normal insulation tape. Have also used it for tubeless in my front tire for a year now , works great and don't see the necessity to change until it gives me problems. Did you have to cut the duct tape to make it fit?

Yes cut the tape to make it fit into the groove, stretched it in to fit snuggly, double checked for sharp ends and no lift. Think it's a good idea to ride it until it becomes a problem and then replace with insulation tape? Thanks for the advice here.

On my trials bike I use duct tape as a rim liner, add about 1 tablespoon of babypowder to the inside of the tyre before putting tube in. It prevents snakebites PS. with this setup I haven't had a snakebite in over a year
