Hi guys

I'm running "Rocket Ron Evo Pacestar 2.25" on the front. on ZTR Crest 650b's.

Needless to say as Schwalbe's first foray into the 650 size these tyres are prob to racy, to little meat on the sides, very soft, which makes them roll under me.

Find they don't hold their line especially in dry/dusty single track.

No confidence... :(

I know summer is coming, less dust, lots more dust.

But what are you other guys using on the 650 format, experience?

Still have Conti Mountain King's on my Merida (26er) and loved them, waiting for Conti to come to the party.

I battle to see why they would differ vastly (if at all) in 650B size in comparison with the same tyre in 26" or 29"!? I use that version of the RoRo on both my 26" and 29" bikes and certainly do not find them slippy in the least bit. Most confidence inspiring tyres I've used. Tyre pressure maybe?

I run mine at 1.8bar.

What pressure you use?

2.0bar, but then I'm a bit of a Clydesdale at 90kg.

Tyres are a bit of personal thing it would seem, like saddles; you gotta find what suits your arse, not the masses" collective arse! I guess tyres are not too dissimilar especially when it comes to what and how you ride.

I'm a Laaiti... hehehe, 68kg's

ye, Tyres, as you say is a personal thing, you either have confidence or don't...

I have to underscore what amasende hinted at: have u tried playing around with the pressures before knocking the product? in my experiences, ppl are lazy and dont take the time to find the sweet spot: there's no such thing as one size fits all.

I'd like to challenge you to play with the pressures, find the sweet spot for your weight and riding style, and then come back and retract your statements :P

I only say this because i had to swallow my words about the Kenda Nevegals. Hated that crap until i pulled finger and found the right pressure.

Run RoRo's and RaRa's on all my bikes. Wouldn't change them. RoRo's are fairly agressive and very similar to Mountain Kings. You'll have to go to something like Nobby Nics if you're after something even more aggressive.

Thats why I went with the RoRo's in the front, because they very similar to the Mountain Kings, and the RaRa's in the rear because they're like the Race Kings which I have on the rear on the other bike.

on your 29er, are they snake skins? how thin/or can I call it substantial are the sides, on mine they are paper thin (ye ye they state this on their product spec page) and making me wonder if that rolling motion they have is what i'm feeling.

I do see the Nobby Nic's are snake skin now, it comes in a 2.34 TL Ready and Snake skin...

Not running SnakeSkin versions. They're too heavy for my liking. Run 23psi. Even lower on my rigid SS.

23psi, wow, thats 1.5 bar, and I'm thinking you a bit bigger than me.

I'm on 1.8 bar, and it feels like they rolling under me on turns.

Whats your compounds, on the 29er, mine is Evo Pacestar 2.25's

your weight, pressure.

we also talking no grip on dusty/hardpack surfaces.

G

I had RoRo, swapped them about after 2 xc races.

I couldnt get to "grip" with them

all i can think is that its pressure related, i think that the RoRo's are some of the best tyres i have ridden but in saying that i also found that they get sketchy went pumped hard, i suggest dropping the pressure and giving it a go again

k, i'm 68-69, depending on breakfast and normally run 1.8

G

Im 67kg, pressure around 1.7. hard pack with a little loose gravel. boy i was in trouble most of the time.
