idea....

to use or not, a nice feature for those with cycle bikes, rollers, spinning bikes at home.

You want to be able to set time steps and effort level or resitance or speed,

IE:

min Level speed

0-3 5 20

3-10 7 15

10- 15 6 20

15 ...

If you can go into spin mode, setup a program like this and have it buzz at every time/step change, then it becomes a tool for the guy that exercises at home also.

Can also be used for outside on the rode potentially,

I use Endomondo currently for live tracking and then later export to Strava. The two combined gives me just about everything I care about.

The only thing I havent been able to do / find in a live app is to create a virtual partner / pacer. You can race against yourself on Endomondo for a route you've done before, but I would have liked the functionality to program a pacer in per set number of km or minutes for any planned ride.

For example:

I knew more or less what time I wanted to do per 10km of the K2C, but halfway into the race I was too tired to try and remember how I was doing relative to plan, are what I needed to do to catch up. It would have been nice to have a visual or audible prompt every so often. Staying on the K2C, a simple pacer with straight line speed from start to finish would not suffice due to some 10km sections, being much tougher / easier than others, hence the requirement for the function to be programmable.

You could integrate something like four square which doesn't really have much reward here in SA. You can get the LBSs to climb on board, they could pay for the privelage or not, but as you're riding it tells you location of nearby stores, paying shops can push some specials to the user, give riders points for check ins at stores which equate to x points/credits or a cuppa coffee etc.

As has been said many apps out there each has something extra each lacking something , perfect app would be a combination of these.

1 Being able to create and compare sectors ( Strava )

2 Being able to use as virtual on previous efforts. ( Bryton/Garmin )

3 You want to be able to set time steps and effort level or resistance or speed, (Yours)

4 Voice updates on intervals or laps (sports tracker )

5 Being able to overlay previous efforts over each other in graph form, to compare strengths and weakness.

6 Auto save and auto pause.

You could always approach it completely different by not tracking the rider, but rather assisting him. Create an application that works out a training program for a given goal and then assists in the execution of said program. I'm referring to the daily schedule with details about the ride, desired intensity and the execution of intervals etc. (for road and spinning bike). And this you would probably be able to sell to most average cyclist.

You will obviously have to know what you are doing to create those training plans to be customizable and accurate. (Or get someone who knows...)

-ability to mark spots: dangerous/potholes/nice routs ets on app and make available to others.

- ability to to preset interval training and make loud beeps for start/stops.

- save pictures with ride... might be nice

- race yourself on a route

- auto start stop

-when checking workout stats. To be able to check your speed + avg at a certain spot.

- integrated automatic posts for every workout to a hub tooic linked to your account. With widget in signature.

Imagin all mentioned features in one app. The world will seen right again!

Suggestion.

Also have a look what the running apps have,

maybe then group the cycling app features and running app features in like groups.

and then have everyone vote on these.

Should give you an idea of the importance, or apparent importance.

giving you a priority level of the different developments.

I would love to be able to break my ride up in sectors or splits (same as Strava automatically does for climbs) but then be able to compare progress on these sectors over time (probably in a graph format so you can see improvement or not). In other words, if I rode a hill today, how does that compare to the last 40 times I rode it in training -- are my times improving or deteriorating -- is my training working or not. Strava shows your times for sectors, but not in a format that I find easy to analyse.

Many of the other suggestions are already available from some Garmin units: Training partner (racing yourself or somebody else's ride), setting a set pace and comparing your speed to that, preset interval training with warnings for start/stops; auto start stop etc etc.
