Due to time constraints I am forced to sit indoors while the rest of you can enjou the lovely cycling friendly weather.

My Question is Iff i can use my aircon (directedon me) in conjunction with my fan? Dont want fo fall ill.

The reason for my question is I am based in AUSSENKEHR Namibie ( avr day temp op 40+) from now onwards.

Temperature has NOTHING to do with getting ill.

What it might do is increase your propensity for getting ill, by drying and irritating the mucous membranes of the throat and nose, and reducing your resistance to an existing viral or bacterial infection, but unless the air is extremely dry (over enthusiastic air con condenser) , it should not be an issue at all.

The best thing you can do to stay healthy is wash your hands regularly, and keep them away from your face.

The popular wisdom seems to be that heavy exercise can lower your immune system and make you susceptible to bugs. Rather oddly, I tend to find the opposite - I stay more bug free when I am regularly exercising. Perhaps I just don't push my body hard enough to dent the immune system (quite likely). I do also take a multi-vit each day too though, maybe that helps.

What kind of aircon is it i.e. a portable unit, fixed on the wall direct from outside or one that is ducted through the building?

My major concern would be "stuff" like dust and fungi that might be present in the outlet side especially if its old.

Otherwise logic says use it to cool the room down but don't sit right in front / under it, we all know how bad a direct draft is for humans......those who have lived in Europe will understand

Mine is wall mounted. About 5 or 6 metres from where bike is, so i'm not right under it. My house is thatch - so there's always dust. Aircon doesn't really add more!

Honestly - you're biggest threat to getting ill is stressing so much. Just do it boet!

Yes, I guess the threat of airborne respiratory tract infections from air-conditioning is either grossly over exaggerated or under estimated.

I'd be gasping for air just saying that out loud - probably cause me to have one. Hop on the trainer, whack the stereo up to 11 and pedal like you're sprinting against Cav - best medicine there is in my book!

That's how I feel right now and I almost always seem to get sick when it happens.
