Bestmed Jacaranda race....Times must be very tough?

That tight left-hander and then a 100m sprint to the finish did make it interesting...but compared to all the cars I had to swerve around last year just before the finish line, I think this was an improvement.

MC told the 40kers that the finish line was the Red Flags, just before the turn off, so I got off and walked...... Only to realize that I added on an extra couple of minutes to my time

I do very few races anymore, IMHO they are all slipping, the only race/ride i have done this year and did not think CHEAPSKATES was J2c. I didn't do mankele this year, but still the best value for money, in my opinion because they haven't pulled the "BIG BOYS" in the long run it all becomes about money, profit( I know it's business, but previous years it also was) and they managed to provide good value for money

As I said previously I have done 4 x sani2c I feel even Farmer is slipping, a few years ago no way would they run out of water,,

Farmer Glenn is also involved J2C?

I read the comments on last years race, here http://www.bicycling...ellite-classic/ EVERYBODY moaned, so I did not enter. A friend convinced me last minute to do it, and I must say that compared to the comments from last year, this was a great ride!

Goodie bags are not the point of cycling.

I say, well done to whoever arranged this race, and as always "thanks marshal".

Agreed, Goodie Bags are NOT the point of CYCLING! What I am questioning here is are you, the participant getting value for your money?

Really do you guys reckon runners moan just as much about races? Surely not not as all events just keep growing....you enter a cycle race because you want to measure yourself against other riders point! So don't expect a goodie bag...most of the things in it go to the garbage bin. I have competed in many ASG events from the 1st up to now and must say in the beginning they were below par but recently they have done an excellent job

Wonderful route! How many participants? 3000 or so and NOOOOOOOO safety pins! Lets not talk about the 120k's I travelled to get to the event of the R150 spent on meals.....If race organizers are here to rip me off then NO THANKS! I will support the Cycle Challenge, The Argus and Tour Durban because in my own opinion, the organizers are in it for the sport of CYCLING and not monetary gains! As of today I will not participate in any ASG events.

Runners get the best stuff under the sun. I'm glad to hear that you think ASG is doing a sterling job. When reflecting back to the many events I participated in, today was an absolute joke!

I just want to congratulate the organisers on the amount of toilets they provided...

I mean really, 8 or 9 toilets for +2000 people!!

Yes that really was a special touch!!!

on my reflection to this race earlier on today:

The good side:

  • chirpy (in a friendly manner) water point just before the Vrekpoort, armed with sun-screen to help us out... (and not afraid to rub our legs!)
  • road markings on potholes, (but if you're riding in a group, someone will inevitably got hit by one...)
  • good marshaling. (in general)

The not-so-good side:

  • Entry cost between the 80Km and the 110Km race (R 10 difference!)
  • only water and water diluted powerade are available in the water-point, even for the 2 water-points after Vrekpoort....
  • all the finisher's medals are the same... (in a way I can brag about doing 110Km while I've only done 80Km , so it's not a bad thing)
  • Very little distance marker on the side of the road (the only one that I've managed to spotted was the 10Km mark before the finishing line)
  • Finishing line in the most obscure location.
  • One of the bike-medic had chosen to chat with a pony-tail female cyclist than attend my call for assistance... (that alone was an eye-opener...)

That's my take on today's race. hopefully the organizer can take them under considerations next year to improve the race...

Agreed - and why persist with those useless medals - does anyone actually keep them???

Good summary Stig - try and get this to ASG

If you dont like the way the races are organised, then dont ride!

South Africans have a victim mentality, and cyclists are no diffrent!

Same like all of us are moaning about DSTV's channels, high monthly subscribtion, yet all the moaners are sunscribers... It stunns me!

Yes, when they do not reply to emails I can appreciate frustration, or poor marshalling, or too little k@k huise, or poor water points... (When a waterpoint has to magically turn into an Energade / Powerade point).

However, if this is the norm, stop moaning or stop supporting the events and go ride with your buddies around the block and kick a ball in a park.

If you dont like what they do, dont take part.

Or shut up and accept what you get. Easy as that!

Take a stand if you feel so strong about it.

3000 or so and NOOOOOOOO safety pins!

Yeah, what a rip-off. Not only was I expected to use my own safety pins, but I had to bring my own bike, my own shoes, my own cycling kit, my own helmet, even my own gloves.

Fortunately I sommer use a stapler to put my numbers on otherwise my WHOLE day, no WHOLE week, would have been RUINED.

Complaining about the absence of a few safety pins to put your number on is what my daughter calls "First world problems"
