guys, i know this is a cycling forum, but 2 wheels are 2 wheels...

please please please spare a thought and a prayer for Buccaneer, the chairman of the ThinkBike campaign. He was at Phakisa this weekend for a track-weekend and on Saturday night 2 of them went to get takeaways. Bucc was riding in front. A bus decided to turn in front of them on a straight stretch of road. C was able to stop in time but Bucc didn't manage to do so. His bike (a big BMW RT) ended up under the bus and got dragged by the bus and Bucc sustained serious life-threatening injuries. He is currently in ICU in Welkom. They've had to put him in an induced coma due to the extent of his injuries. from here we can only wait and hope that the next news will be good news.

not good...

Latest update: Bucc is still battling and his body is fighting. His blood pressure is still extremely low with heart rate at 150. Blackie said his kidneys may be giving him some trouble' date=' obviously fighting infections, etc. I don't know all the medical terms, so RR will probably give you a better description.

Bottom line is Bucc is battling, please pray for him http://www.thinkbike.co.za/talk/phpBB2/images/smiles/sad.gif[/quote']

Konafan and myself was waaaayyyyy to close this morning to a Putco bus as well.  He had to pass us almost pushing us off the road so that he can stop in front of us.

Bateleur, it seems that this has become SOP for Metro/Putco busses.  I was pushed onto the grass verge near Saheti last week.  When I confronted the driver I was just told that I can try to do something about it.

Sorry slowpoke just realised that my comment was a bit too light hearted for a serious thread like this.

Rest assured that my thoughts are with the guy and I really hope he can pull through.

Feedback from the doctors via Blackie is as follows:

The medics run regular blood-enzyme and blood-toxin tests to assert the current status. From the information obtained' date=' they have advised Blackie as follows:

The widespread muscle bruising is causing break-down by-products and toxins to build up in the bloodstream. Because the heart is compromised there is also less circulation thru the kidneys and through the peripheral organs.... leads to more tissue break-down and more toxins.
The kidneys are not coping in excreting the toxin overload enough, and that itself is damaging his kidneys more. The end result, where we are now, is the beginning of multiple organ failure. That is serious.
the doctors are putting Buccs at a 50-50 survival chance.

At this stage there is no pneumonia, but it is a very real risk.

His pelvis is broken front and back, and requires surgery, but this has been put on hold until Buccs is stable enough to handle an anaesthetic[/quote']

You mean you were in the car? I thought you meant on your bike.

That's where I love driving my old Range Rover with the huge steel bull bar. It has several scrapes from altercations with taxis etc.
