Hi Gandalf, all the Cape streams are closed from 1 June and only opens on 1 Sept. They are currently just raging torrents of icy water and impossible to wade. Best to enjoy the wine.

Ag poef. how about some dams?

The closest , and probably the prettiest place, is in Jonkershoek near Stellebosch. It is a great place to ride too, with bikes for hire if you don't bring your own. Our best dam fishing is in the Ceres area, but that is a 2.5 hr drive away. Our dams work best in winter when the water is nice and cold and the fish frisky.

Try contacting Stream X - They will know what is currently fishing well. 021 551 4248. Sorry, it seems Jonkershoek is indeed closed.

I used the public holiday productively to tie up some Yellow-fish flies for my upcoming lower Orange River trip. I used the booklet on SA Aquatic Invertebrates, that I downloaded after getting the link earlier in this thread, for inspiration.

Oh, I HAVE tried most of those, but the best salt water fly fishing in the Western Cape is still a trip to the Wild Coast, Natal or Moz. The trouble is that our coast is very fickle and I tend to have many more blank days than I can handle. There always seem to be a bloody cold front or southeaster or something weird in the weather just when I try the salt.
