I have an aluminium frame (MTB) with aluminium seat post. The clamp is the regular quick release type. The problem I'm having is that the seatpost moves down by itself so I have to adjust it almost before every ride. Rough terrain also makes it worse.

I've had the bike for just over a year and the problem seems to be getting worse.

I will try and properly clean it again but it does not seem to be working.

Any Suggestions?

just get a clamp with a bolt in it. I never use a quick release clamp. what size is your post and where are you? I have a spare clamp if it is the correct size

Like mentioned above, get a clamp that works with a bolt and not the quick release. Then let your lbs spray some of the sticky paste. It will solve your problem

Try to unclamp the Quick Release (open position) then give the nut on the other side a quarter or half turn. Then close the QR mechanism again. Repeat process until the seatpost stops moving.

You may also have the wrong size seatpost in there - a few tenths of a mm too small may make it slip. Other causes - could be a crappy seatclamp (KCNC springs to mind,) the clamp may need to be cleaned, lubed and properly tightened, and if all else fails the carbon assembly paste route should sort you out.

I had this problem with a seatpost, then I noticed the seat post is clamping against itself and not the bike. It is a quick release and I tightened it more with an alan key. Basically need a smaller seat clamp.

There is no gap in the seat clamp bolt when it is tightened.

ha... all of the above are valid points.

Is the collar on the clamp touching the seatpost?

This would mean you are clinching the clamp around the actual post and not the frame, thus causing the slip. Sometimes (especially in the 27.2 catagory) the clamps do this.

Also, the QR seatclamps occasionally wear to a point where it is very tight closing it but it loosens slightly in it's fully closed position.

Good luck. If you have an odd size seat post clamp/frame diameter and nothing seems to be working buy the seatpost bottle mount clamps, adjust seat height and tighten the clamps around the base of the seat as 'stoppers'.... Ghetto I know but it works as a last resort.

Good luck

Sounds terminal. You need a new bike.

My thoughts as well, but my wife will kill me...

I will try the other suggestions. Didn't know there was some of the nonslip paste/spray.

Thanks for suggestions everyone!

You can also put insulation tape round the post as a marker of where you insert the post to. It won't allow it to slip further
