If you'd ridden a bike with a 40 on it you'd know why.

Ya but bro, a 40 and a 36 vanilla are 2 of Fox's BEST forks. And they're nowhere near the same as a CTD thing. Ask Mark de de de de Decker again...

ROFL.

That's like saying Rondebosch East must also be an affluent area 'cos it has the same name in it as Rondebosch normal (no offence to the okes in Bsch east)

Hehe. ja. was just messing.

Yeah. That CTD system is kaaaaaaaak! They should have stuck with propedal. It's a well known problem in the Fox line up, one that they were supposed to fox but clearly haven't

And the rear would probably have been a function of the type of shock that was on there. The rp 23 has a much firmer lockout / propedal platform than the vivid does. The vivid is a really burly ass shock not really designed with much pedalling efficiency in mind AFAIK.

Actually, the 2013 CTD float is not a bad shock at all. The air spring comes tuned with a volume spacer but depending on your weight, may need a bigger one, as mine did. It now has the perfect progressive air spring I wanted and no bottoming out.

The CTD makes a lot of sense. The Maestro does not bob when pedaled. In DH mode, the rear sits lower in its stroke which is perfect when the going gets steep. In Climb mode, the shock is still active but much stiffer on compression. This works a treat on climbs and keeps the rear riding higher and coupled with the TALAS fork makes my Reign brilliant on the climbs. It also deals with the extra weight of my 11kg son on my back very well in this mode too :-)

DB the Reign is a great bike - I loved mine.

But there is no question that the geometry is starting to get a little dated.

You should ride a TX 27.5 before you decide. I don't miss my XT drivetrain at all.

Don't hate me but I actually like leaving the pro pedal on when gassing it downhill. I often did this on my Reign X and my Tracer (same shock).

I like the feel of the shock with the pro pedal on

On the shock, yeah. But on the fork they seem to have gotten it horribly wrong. I LOVE my Fox rear. But the CTD fork is what I was commenting on.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Clearly i was referencing the wrong post when replying. Yes, in that one I was referencing the shock. And yes, the Maestro is a fantabulous system. And yes, the shock seems to have been sorted in the most troublesome areas. But the problems in the fork persist, it seems.

Erm... Trance is longer, just 0.5 degrees slacker, same TT length and just a slightly lower standover height. Every time I look at the numbers I wonder wtf giant was smoking... AND it has less travel. Plus it's a 2013 Reign vs a 2014 Trance. The reign was only just recently redesigned as well...

I agree with this. PP 'on' meant I could run a bit more sag without sacrificing the responsiveness when leaving corners.. it would feel like a trail bike on steroids.

Exactly. with the PP open it feels a bit dead. Plus it's less buttons to think about. On the Snake trails and neverending at jonkers for instance which are quite pedally i deff like to leave the PP on. On the DH I typically put it to open but if I forget it's not a trainsmash at all.

I like it stiff up front too.

Ja guys, but remember, this is CTD not PiePie, and my shock has been custom tjooned to have a SPAS - "Super Progressive Air Spring", so wide open works like a charm, ek se.
