if its the same course as worlds and clearly JR proved to be best suited, they should all work for him...or am I over simplifying this...I like KE idea, and I am sure he is talking about Reid when it comes to getting a saffa on the podium. Also this will mean huge confidence boost for JR if they(the whole team) pulls it off..

Not sure who is coming but I predict the best we can hope for is to have a rider in the top 10.

Sure, there will stiff comp no doubt...lekata, ze germans, suzie and fellow swiss stars...but giving one person a proper shot at it might be a good idea...proper shot ito working together for the greater good of one person...Reid in this case due to his form

Pathetic tweet by Kevin, little stab at James in my eyes when he had even more time ridden into him. Kevin, Brandon and Fedgroup really should just call it a day - SA mountainbiking is better off without them.

When someone uses the words "big respect" in a tweet it's not a pathetic tweet. He was referring to his own time just as much and just acknowledging the pace of the Euro riders.

It is pathetic and just because he says "big respect" why is it not? Why mention SA Champ? Why not just say "SA riders" or " myself" and finally, how can he be referring to his own time when he isnt SA Champ? James is.

He didnt know the pace of the Euro's he never saw them after the 1st climb.

I'm sure no dig was intended at James Reid, just an honest observation about the different level the 'Euro' riders compete at compared to the Saffers.

I'm very disappointed at our marathon guys' performance. For two XCO specialists to be the first two Saffers across the line when we are a country that specialises in XCM racing, means that our marathon guys really need to up their game. Maybe they're happy competing on the SA stage only and don't really care about where they rate globally?

Either way I think any youngster thinking of making a career in MTB should focus on XCO not marathon. Their training and fitness clearly allows them to compete successfully in XCM while at the same time allowing them to compete and make a real name for themselves on the global stage.

I also think it's a bit of a stab...

Whether it is pathetic or a dig or not, quite cool that the SA champ managed to stay in front of the SA contenders and that nothing can be said about him winning SA Champs and the under perform at worlds. James Reid needs some serious backing.

World Championship

1. Jaroslav Kulhavy (Cze) 4:15:58

17. James Reid (RSA) 4:34:09 +18:10

Time difference 18:10

SA Championship race time

James Reid 4:41:21

Kevin Evans 4:48:38

Time difference ~30 minutes slower than Kulhavy

He is clearly referring to the difference between the SA Championship and the World Championship in general.

You would need an enormous amount of baggage to read it as an attack on James.

I think you are misinterpreting the tweet.

Kevin rode a 04.48.38 at SA Champs. He rode a 04.43.34 at world champs. From what I understand it was on the same course.

Kulhavy's winning time was 04.15.57, ie 33 minutes less that Kevin's SA Champs time. Lakata's and Sauser's time was also nearly 30 minutes faster than his SA champs time.

So, he only mentioned the level at which the Euro pros operate. I really don't think he intended his tweet at James Reid.
