MTB vs Road

I've been toying with getting a mountain bike for a while now (traffic, irate drivers etc) but as yet have only been a roadie.  Lately I'm really toying with the idea of letting my road bike go on to someone who is braver than I on the roads and get myself a really nice mountain bike with the money I get for the road bike (otherwise I'll have to save up forever and ever and ever to get a really nice mountain bike)

 

So what do you say? Both? Only road? Only mountain?

Road, might use the mtb for a bit of a change once in a while. But i prefer the road.

mountain bike, alida! loads more fun! it's also fun when it rains, although that would mean no more dances!

Mtb much safer in terms of traffic and in my opinion more fun.

I do all of my training/riding on the mtb and haul out my road bike for the big races (94, Argus etc)

Holy there's no way I'd feel right about depriving you of your dancing shoes ... guess I'll have to keep saving up for that mountain bike so that you can dance the rain away for road races

I've got both and am thinking of selling my road bike and upgrading my mountain bike.  I only really use my road bike for the big road races, but my baby gets used almost every weekend.

i like to the road for racing and the mtb for fun. had my first outing to northern farm not so long ago and i just loved it.

but, for now i won't give up road racing.

Mind you some our definitions of MTB racing are different. EWEP races for pies, Holy Roller races for beer..... I race to sleep

its important to have a road bike to do base miles.....its then easier competing in marathon races on the mtb

Bought a MTB, got a road bike for free, sold the road bike, upgraded the mtb.
