And Avaya from NZ have won.... again... 6 out of the last 7 years now and one team member has now won world champs 8 times. Massive respect though, they were poised and had a perfect race, perfect nav, Naturex got hit with a penalty for not having all the compulsory equipment yesterday so they had to sit for 2 hours watching Avaya paddle into the distance.

And they almost look like normal human beings...

Huge respect, crazy tough and athletic bunch

My bad it's actually only 7 times!

what's also amazing is that 2013 Costa Rica, the year they didn't win, they were leading and pulled out due to serious foot injuries (6 days in and feet were rotting), and Stu was on the team that won anyway.

And then in 2011, they came third in Tasmania, but in the lead they had to sit out a 4 hour penalty at the final TA after missing some gear and the next two teams came in past them.

amazingly humble guys, because it is a marginal sport even the rockstars are decent blokes.

they did EA in 2014 here, in port edward. creamed the tough race and were nice and rested when i came in. they weren't feeling too bad so did a 24hour race in Aus on the way home to NZ, which they won too.

(oh and let's not forget that little fact there were two kiwis on the team that came 2nd as well)

Ya they are buggered apparently, been whatsapping a friend who is photographing, he says all the teams are battling with feet and walking on eggshells. Lance and Mac were like pack horses throughout with Nic keeping them on track as he does best. This is a solid result in a packed field, as usual cyanosis just moving at a good solid constant pace throughout.

Red Ants will hopefully get to CP17 for a nap this eve and finish strong tomorrow...

thats what happens when you spent the first two days on your feet, going up huge mountains and crossing lots of rivers so they never dry out.

then the next day you paddle and drag rafts through rivers

then the next day you go hiking along the coast and then hikeabike then more hike along the coast

then the next day you climb up a volcano

and then after like 90hours you actually finally ride a bike for real.

This was always going to be a footrace, when you try and put a 500km course on an island 60x40km wide. My FOMO dissipated quite quickly.

I look forward to seeing some decent foot rot pictures

So does that mean you joining us in Sunny Scotland for Itera next year or you going to see how Stephan manages to squeeze an expedition on an island 18km long?

The foot rot photos should follow soon hopefully, will ask Terence to go hunt some down now

Red Ants are in TA6, they going to do the rope work and short trek to the next transition and then sleep through tonight with the kayak dark zone and the paddling cancelled today due to conditions.

Team is doing well but they look like they have certainly taken a hammering the last few days...

There might have been a tad different story in the SA line up had The Jabberwocks and the Wolves not had an injured member apiece...BUT still a rather stout effort by BIG Mac and his soldiers...SALUTE!!!

Definitely not doing Rodrigues. Scotland seems a bit moist. I'd I was to do an overseas race next year, I'd either get my sh!t together and try get to Sri Lanka or there is one in Croatia that looks decent

But consider the epic-ness of sleep monsters while paddling Loch Ness?
