35 and 55 go through tunnel, although the 55 is not a toughy, I'd recommend the 35 for a newbie

Do the 35km, ii still goes into the tunnel. I did it last year, its a pretty tough 35km, lots of climbs.

Look at it this way, you only need to be fit enough to survive the first 30km as the last 20km is mosly downhill, so it's the perfect race to graduate to the longer distances
