It's only the Roadies.... its the reason I only MTB now - Safer (no cars in the bush) and far more friendly and sociable!

Not to mention no wheel suckers either :)

OK, so you want to be greeted. I, in my capacity as a Western Cape local would therefore like to greet YOU, dear holidaymaker.

The problem is, I cannot justify wasting my breath on greeting everyone I see: its muggie and steekvlieg time here and I am trying to limit my protein intake. I therefore respectfully request that those that want to be greeted ware I red armbandjie  on the upper right arm so that I will be able to recognize you and greet you.

Will you guys do that for me?

Jaco I fully agree with you. Me I my buddies are mostly on our mtb's and we do not see any such behavior in the mountain. Total different store when we on the road around Cape Peninsula. This morning we took a ride from Sometset West to Pringle Bay and back and every single cyclist greeted us, wow, total different store that side of the world. Must agree with you that we are so privilege to be able to cycle in Cape Town, as we have some of the best roads with such scenic views.

Actually, I can't even get people at work to greet me. "Hello Juan!", "Hello Jaco!", "Morning Bevin!", "Hey Bones, how's things?"

Stony silence.

Maybe I better stop carrying the chain saw everywhere.

If I look at strava flyby, on a peninsula loop we pass 200 cyclists in a morning in summer who have strava. And some people don't use strava. There are just a lot more cyclists in a small space in cape town.

In a bunch our front guy normally greets people we pass, otherwise it would sound like a choir of hellos.

Also since I have started mtb I have not found them any more friendly.

I started cycling in January this year and I have observed that Mountain Bikers are way more friendly, always greeting and checking if you need assistance when they see you standing still on the side of the jeep or single track. Some roadies have some serious attitude and arrogance, and again I say some....

After a long holiday in Cape Town and its surroundings, I can only say that I'm very ashamed to be called a cyclist when riding there! I have always been friendly to those that share my passion for sport, whether it be swimming, walking your dog, cycling or running. I am also one that greets my fellow cyclists and runners as this is not only friendly, but also creates a great atmosphere under each other. All I can say is that I'm shocked! Cape town has these great cycling friendly roads like no other city in SA and every cyclist I greeted gave me a bad look and just went on further. This not only happened once or twice, but more than 50 times during my 4 week stay in the Cape. I asked a fellow hubber Dealer01 when I collected my cassette from him and he says this has been going on for quite a while. How can one blame road rage against cyclists if they ride two or even 3 abreast, can't greet back or say thanks to vehicles that go out of their way to ride around these riders that ride next to each other? They have absolutely no respect for other cyclists or cars on the road for that matter. I am truely ashamed

Well , come to PE . Here you soon have "greeters" arm . Saying that there are a few roadies ( not more than 10 ) with a Cape Town attitude but they are in the minority and know it .

You must have some kind of insecurity complex that you want to be greeted all the time

I never greet anyone whose Road bike is more expensive than mine, cos that probably means you take your cycle time much more seriously than I do. I also ride on the road with a Camelback...And most people think that is totally uncool, and I acknowledge they would prefer not to be greeted by such a peasant.

From this thread, maybe we need to change it to psychling?
