Western Cape has worst cyclists by far

Funny that you mention this. I (an ex Capie) experienced the same thing in the Durbanville/Bottelary area in Dec. The MTB crowd are happy to wave (I was on my MTB), but the roadies (looks like the more serious riders), just clapped me a big fat ignore.

At least you got ignored, usually they don't even acknowledge me!

Even funnier is that when you do the same ride on your road bike its exactly the other way around ^_^

I still don't get this whole "greet every other cyclists you pass just because you're both cycling" thing we seem to have going on..

Really? If I don't know you, I'm highly unlikely to speak to you. We're not riding together for a reason - I don't know you. And I don't ride to meet people, I ride to have alone time... To think. To ponder. To relax. To push myself. Not to join some damn social club where anyone on two wheels automatically becomes my best friend all of a sudden, just because.

Don't get me wrong. I'll chat to people who interest me,, like the guy on the awesome linskey the other day. Or the guy who complimented me on my bike... Or the two hot girls who needed some help changing a tyre. But what is it going to help waving at every Tom, dick, and Harriet I pass on my morning ride?

Really guys...

Grow. Up. Go find a different way to meet people. Join the neighbourhood watch. Visit an old age home. Go to church. Or an AA meeting. But let me ride and get on with your own one, without bitching because 4 people didn't greet you on your ride, like you're the queen and expect us all to grovel.

Rant off. Well, maybe on standby till the next that complains.

I must sort of agree. I think that because cyclist share a common interest they feel obligated to greet each other. If we apply this logic to a shopping mall, we should greet each and every person you walk past, after all, we are all there with a common goal.

It is about situation, if you are on a long and lonely road and you come up to another lone cyclist, you will more than likely not only greet them, but probably chat too. Saturday mornings in the cradle? Ja, you try and smile and greet several hundred cyclists without missing one, and potentially pissing them off and suffering a hub rant.

Having said that, if I greet another cyclist, as I usually do, and they dont greet back, I automatically think he is a ****. Go figure.

But no one likes going to the mall. We cycle cause we love cycling. Acknowledging another cyclist and giving him a nod or wave when you make eye contact is not too much to ask, otherwise I will just look like a perve when I stare at his new Santa Cruz.

Yusran, serious serious seriously. I hope you have headphones. Or your own office with a door that closes.

If not you must seriously be the most irritating person to work with. I get the sentiments expressed but that piece of music is seriously annoying.

Are you ok?

Haha don't worry, no one sees or hears this except me. We open office next week so have been doing some private work at home.

I actually did the same with that

video, I'll overplay it and get over it after a while - hopefully will get this one out of my head by the time we cross the finish line on Sunday.

See all you Western Cape Cyclists on the weekend!

yeah Im from Cape Town and have to agree that the majority carry big egos. Very seldom does a fellow cyclist greet me back. But there you have it, people will be people whether they are driving a car, cycling or merely walking in the street. A dr@l will stay a dr@l no matter what it is doing.

I think people are exaggerating a bit here. I've never experienced this and I've been in Cape Town all my life. I'm pretty sure this morning 95% of the cyclists I passed all greeted me.

I went on a portion of the Die Burger route this morning. I probably passed 40-odd cyclists. I got greeted by every single one besides the odd commuter and the people flying down Helshoogte (bit hard to wave going 75km/h).

I think the whole CPT cyclists are rude debate completely depends on where and when you cycle. In a year of cycling I've never really felt fellow riders to be rude. Most greet, but you will obviously get the serious guys who couldn't care less.

I dusted off my road bike and did the Noordhoek - Chappies - camps bay route a couple weekends ago. I was still on a complete high from W2W and believing the world is a beautiful place filled with puppies and rainbows.

So I decided to great every rider who I passed on Chappies - Its exhausting! There are so many riders you spend more time looking up and smiling than you do on the looking at the road. Then what do you do when a large groups come passed do you great once or each rider individually?

Some greated back some not, but honestly I tried and could not actually great everyone for fear of acute hypoxia.

So don't take it personaly just enjoy the stunning views.
