Mine are still going strong after years of abuse...

The white Giant ones in the previous post were R330, not sure what Mosh are going for.

Those Mosh ones are no more. Good to see they've finally got a replacement though, there haven't been much in the way of affordable decent flatties on the market lately.

If I hadn't just sprung for a set of Saints yesterday I'd try them out. Oh well.

I must admit that I bought them more for form rather than function - the white matched my bike - but have been impressed. Ride with a old pair of Vans mostly, and they "dig" in. Have yet to lose grip on them.

Don't want to start a new thread...so here's a mini-hijack...thoughts on flats on a fixie, anyone?

Isn't anything other than flats on a fixie potential suicide?

(both physical and social, as your other hipster friends laugh at you for wearing Sidis to the local coffee shop, while they're sporting vans, all stars, and veldskoene.)

Nah, my retro adidas shoes were bought before Vans, etc, were cool, so as long as I wear a cashmere jersey, a hideous scarf, sling my leather satchel, and the Levi's are skin-tight...well, yeah I kinda rock.

There goes what little street cred I MAY have had :whistling: - then again I don't have Sidis, Vans, All Stars or veldskoene but I do have a pair of 'Reedboks' from Panorama fleamarket - the little slant eye told me they are real though ....

No one here considered the Crank Brothers Mallet range? They have both a platform and can be clipped in to the eggbeaters. Best of both worlds.

Good options for clips. i have some just like these that I use with 5.10 Maltese Falcons (also best of both).

That said I still prefer my proper flats and haven't ridden clips since day 2 Sani last year (day 1 and 3 I used flats). I must dust them off and give them a go again.

I see you can now get decent flat shoes that can take a cleat too on dialdbikes.co.za.

I was very keen to run my saints on the single speed, but the spinning those weapons around scares me. How do you find them on the SS BigBen?

I just use that bike round the suburbs to run errands and occasionally to go have coffee at the LBS so not much 'spinning' and I do have a brake to keep things under control ... on a single speed though you can and will just stop pedaling when it gets crazy .....

On the fixie man now that is just on another level, come damn close to 'unscrewing my hips' on  a few occasions

Keeping in  mind these are both road bikes ....

Ah. Yes, I've but a SS trail monster that I also commute (all off road) with.... The clips work well for this. I just had a dream of running flats on it which isn't working out like I had imagined...

Not the best of both worlds actually

The platform part of the mallet is there to give added stability when clipped in as well as make it easier to find the pedal when clipped out.

They do allow your foot to sit on them as a platform but the grip isn't that great. The pins are there to help but yeah. It's not a dual purpose pedal.

Agreed. Have a pair of these. Great pedal when clipped in but frigging useless when not...

Apparently the Saints are properly sticky. And personally, I'd rather have flats on a fixie than cleats. As BigBen says - the ability of clips to unscrew you hips is a bit of an off-putter.

And no - I wouldn't go for those dual purpose pedals. It's a compromise on the security of flats, but a far more substantial cleats system as it gives more support. The only time I'd ride them without cleated shoes is to the shops.
