I have a pretty heavy Gt Avalanche 1 and a lighter (much!) Trance. I still ride the GT a couple of times a week, its a solid bike despite its weight.

Thanks for all the input guys. Really appreciate it.

I'm really keen on entering the sport, but am kind of torn between whether to spend the extra money and whether i'll notice the difference based on the price.

I've looked at the Titan Trail for R7200 or the Scott Aspect 930 for R7500

But then think maybe i should spend the little extra and go for the Scott Scale 940 (R11400) or perhaps the Merida Big9 TFS 500 (R11k)

I'm nervous that the novelty will wear off and that i'll be stuck with pretty much expensive decorations.

Do you guys think i should take the plunge or just start small and upgrade based on how it goes

Will i be able to drastically feel a difference in my ride for the price increase

Cheers.

The novelty wont wear off, odds on it gets bigger and all consuming.

MTB is pretty damn addictive.

If you are buying a titan, then saving money is the issue not weight.

Once you have cycled with tumbleweed you realise the only reason he likes lighter bikes is so that he can lift them off himself whenever he does those cool over the handlebar stunts..........

How was I supposed to know there was a submerged rock…
