Specialized SWAT kit price

I bought a new Specialized Epic frame, which does not come with the SWAT kit. It has to be bought separately.You get tyre levers, bombs, two cages, a tube and inflator, multi-tool and chain breaker.

 

I have been quoted R 2500 for the kit.

 

I think this price is absolutely ridiculous ?

Yip seems a bit rude to me, problem is that they have created a captive market, you just kinda gotta go for it don't you.

Retail for something similar if you used one of those Pro storage bottles would start at around R600. It will obviously depend on the type of multi-tool and chain breaker. So in comparison, no the price difference doesn't make sense BUT it is all relative! You just bought an awesome piece of kit for a bit of money, so the R2500 is small change in comparison to the value of the bike.

 

I do think it is ridiculous though.

2 ways of looking at it really,, i have lost my bottle i use to keep spares/cash in for long rides,

 

if you add up the cash the multitool, tube, plugs,links

 

its one way you never have to loose anything and its always there i would have no issue paying that, the tool i lost was a

 

old specialized one that was rather special to me

well they just smoked u 60K(if its an s-works) for a bike, sure they think 2,5k is change for u.

I think it does sound to much, but I do think if you price the kit separately you might find that it is not that hectic. As said here the bottle cages would be pricey on its own, I know the Spez multi tool does not come cheap.

 

o agree that when you get the price it is a bit of a shock.

 

Off Topic, what did you pay for the frame, and which one did you buy?

From what I understand, this is a custom made kit, using high end materials (Ti, etc) to make it as light as possible. And has also been designed to fit into a special compartment / fitting on the frame. When you look at it like that, it is a custom kit and you can expect to pay top dollar, especially as it'sSpez branded.

 

I'd compare it to the Titanium tool set which came with the McClaren Roadster a couple of years back. Top of the range stuff.

I paid a quoted amount for the whole bike, built up the way I wanted it. Not sure what the frame was separate. I got the S-works. I just feel after spending that sort of ammo on my dream bike the kit price adds insult to injury!!

I get your drift. It would be my understanding that if you basically both the S-Works and made various deals to customize it, ie what would you quote me on taking other type of wheel instead of what I get and you pay the difference, the the SWAT kit should be part of the initial spend.

I've found saddlebags keep breaking due to the bumps experienced during mountain biking. My last one lasted two months and cost me a phone when it fell off in the rain. And that was a decent quality Lezyne.

 

So I'm a bit hesitant to recommend a saddlebag for mtb.
