One of the funnest runs in SA (in my opinion) shared via GoPro:

Wow, that was great!

I've been considering getting a GoPro. I would use it for the mtb and and sea kayaking but yeah, price is always a factor. I do graphics work so I have the horse power in my machine to deal with the editing requirements and patience-wise I reckon I'm a decent candidate.

Sold my Hero 960 to a very happy motorbiker on Monday. I found all the the accessories it came with , still untouched since the day I bought it in 2011.

Chest belt, helmet mount, car mount, some other mount and a second door for the housing. I only used the bike mount, which was an extra I had to buy. Threw in a 32gig SD card and a K-Edge aluminium handlebar mount. All for R1800.

That will go towards a Nikon AW-110.

I want to do the same but battery on my Drift seems to have packed up :-(

I bought the AW-100, very happy with it. Unfased when we use it on the beach, gets wet, goes underwater no problems.

My 2cents.

Sure my GoPro was not cheap and the worst part is all the mounts cost quite a lot and to truly get the best experience you need a ton of mounts and extras.

That being said. I have a gopole, chest mount, suction mount and all the basics little stick-on pads.

I enjoy using it, but I never did, until I really invested in the right mount for the job.

I say it's worth it if you use it every time an opportunity presents itself, but if you just mount it to your bike it's a waste.

What kind of PC (Super machine) do I need to prosess and edit the videos?

I do mine on my macbook pro. Takes about 30 minutes to load the clips, 20 minutes to edit and 20'minutes to create the edited file.

Any pretty fast Dual core and up with 4Gb computer will do fine, faster would be nicer but a doable computer is just is a bit slower when editing and takes longer to render, rendering you can leave overnight if need be so not really and issue.

Sony Vegas is nice software for editing, easy to use and with pro features, well that was when I last used it, current version should be even better.

Seeing the latest video footage of an armed robbery, I think nowadays everybody should wear some sort of media recording device! Then u get those peeps that make awesome videos of their rides! I dont only use it on the bike, it replaced my "mik en druk" and its durabilty makes it a great camera all round! Look at some big brand cameras, GoPro is a very cheap, very good little camera!

Hey, I think they would be awesome if you would like to review the lines you took on the trails. Check what your errors are and what you could differently and so on. Self progression, of the sorts.

Like mentioned with the armed robbery, yeah that could also be a benefit. But I wouldn't buy myself a GoPro for that, rather for what I said up top. And personally, it's 50 / 50 chance of keeping your GoPro when getting robbed, my goodness... It's a flashy thing why not take it, those guys...

This guy has hundreds of reviews on these little guys, mostly used for dash cams.....not really high end stuff like GoPro, but cool little toys!

For me the thing I dislike most about gopro is the frankly ridiculous pricing. It's not like it's super duper cutting edge technology or anything. What I love tho is the availability of mounts.

I think I've found the perfect compromise.

I bought a thing called the Denver ACT-1302 at JHB airport duty free yesterday. Yes I know I already have a gopro.

R899. Stupid cheap for an action cam. Making the price of gopro EVEN more retarded. And it's gopro mount compatible. It lacks the bells & whistles of the gopro like time lapse and the ability to film in upside down mode.

But on the flip side it comes with a handlebar and helmet mount. it also comes with 2 housings. 1 is a waterproof unit similar to the gopro and the other is basically a dust cover. with the dust cover mount fitted it's stupid light. Like 50 grams. And it can be mounted both ways in the dust cover mount offsetting the inability to switch to upside down mode that the gopro has somewhat.

It's got a viewfinder/playback screen (optional extra on gopro) and is super simple to use. Power and an start/stop button. It records for more than an hour before it runs out of juice which is fine for my needs.

So if you're looking for a gopro on a budget buy yourself an international plane ticket out of JHB and get a Denver ACT-1302. Hehe.

I had a few of these cheapies because I also thought the go-pro was just to pricey . But after I got tired of the 1 hour recording time I got the Go-Pro . No I know what a proper action camera should really be like . No more blind spots if you move from the shade into the sun , no blurry pictures when going fast when there are tree or other stuff next to the course and my battery will record for almost 3 hours .
