The MTBer Posted January 17, 2014 Share Every time I pass Cape Union Mart I stare for 10 minutes at the Go Pro video in the store. Every time I am keen to buy one, but then I look at the price, I look down slowly and turn around and walk away. I want to know if it is worth to buy and mount it to your bike? No Hare Posted January 17, 2014 Share The most interesting thing that you might record is that spill that you want nobody to see. Go Pro footage is like holiday pictures, nobody is really interested. sorry Jacques Viljoen, mrbaker, TheKaiser and 8 others

clement Posted January 17, 2014 Share +1Its like a puppy, all cute and cudly in the beginning and after two months its on Gumtree...(Analogy only, I don't own pets haha) Yes you definitely need a Gopro, the standing in front of Cape Union Mart drooling at the video is a good indication that you are a prime candidate for one. Like BrandonF kindly suggested, do not buy it new, wait for a 2 month old one to come up on Gumtree or the Hub. And seeing that only you will find the footage interesting you do not need the top of the line Spielberg version, the more affordable version will be able to record big spills just as well and amuse and entertain your friends with hours of riding footage. Blinkp Posted January 17, 2014 Share I love mine. Started with the 2 then 3 and now 3+.Depends on if you are going to use it. There are so many different mounts nowadays it really makes it fun and the quality just gets better. Video editing is hard work but used mine the entire holiday for all my pictures. Guest Omega Man Posted January 17, 2014 Share I think they are great. But here is the thing. Don't waste your money on bar mounts, seat mounts etc etc. The only 2 mounts that work are chesty and helmet mounts. And the chesty has to be kaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkk tight. usxorf, Heinrich Hattingh, arendoog and 1 other

I have a stem cap mount, I think it's pretty good. Agree with you on the chesty. Helmet mount never worked for me,
Squier Posted January 17, 2014 Share Bought mine and I love the footage. However, I only own android devices and there are no decent android based video editors. Apple has Corel but it boggles the mind that android is so lacking in this department. Still, nice to have if you use it right. For me, helmet mount the only way to go. No one wants to stare at the ground, doesn't matter how sweet the singletrack is. It will never capture the experience but a great way to save some memories. T-Bob Posted January 17, 2014 Share Nope. It's like the old adage in surfing. 'Watching yourself on film is akin to getting caught spanking by your parents. Considering the effort and desire it's pretty embarrassing for you, you though it looked better, the other people involved would rather not be subjected to it and could think of a million things that'd rather be watching. In the end you'd all rather be off doing it than stuck watching." ChUkKy
Tayyib Posted January 17, 2014 Share I love it! It goes with me everywhere! Use to use it mainly for spearfishing back in durban! But use it on the bike,in the car, skiing, messing around at the dam,in the pool, partys ect etc,and you can catch great stills from the footage! So worth the money! Mines one of the older ones and still happy with it! P.S go chesty for the mtb!
BarHugger Posted January 18, 2014 Share There are other gadgets also on the market.....and DHL will gladly deliver from China at your doorstep. I own such a device at half the price of a GP and that can do double what the GP can do in its basic form (took it for a 20m scuba dive without any added protective casing.....no problem). Have 8h record time on Full HD setting, etc, etc, etc. Long and short....do some homework, shop around and don't waste your money. Or alternatively, just upgrade you cell to a SONY Experia Z1 (seriaaaas camera capabilities, waterproof, shock resistant). Surv0MTB Posted January 18, 2014 Share Yeah not worth it unless you are into videography or something. Wife bought me one for Xmas a few years back, was sort of cool, thought I wanted one to record our rides. But ya the novelty wore off quickly, and I soon sold it to go towards some new rims.
