I achieved my goal of staying with the A bunch till 50km (I got drop on the climb at 56km.) Finished in 2:46.

One thing that was happening in the A bunch that really don't get; the riders at the front move over to the right, until they are on the white line. The result is 10 riders back where the bunch becomes 3 or 4 abreast, riders start riding on the wrong side of the white line. Why do they do this?

Guttering!

I really got the sense that the 3 guys sponsored by Randfontein Private Hospital (black/blue kit), we some much stronger than the rest of us. Especially the ghuys on the Ridley. Not sure why they didn't go for a break and cleaned up. The racing was kind of negative. Not that I could make it any harder :-)

Piesang (Ridley) and Boerie (Look) are both strong riders, however the route was not ideal for a break away, so it was always going to be a sprint finish. Only certain guys were prepared to attack but nothing came of it. We are missing the Complete Cyclist in the A bunch. They rode tactically the whole of last year. R4S and Carnival will be the same unless its windy.

Is it not a legitimate race 'tactic' and only you can make that choice whether to cross the line or not?

For whom? The guy in front or crossing the white line in the slip?

Of course it's a valid and good tactic to ride gutter.

Not sure if this is right, but as I always understood it the gutter is a bad place to be. Wind from the side , work together by forming an echelon (abreast to the side of each other ) and then you put the weaker guys in the gutter ,which is the long exposed tail forming behind . The place where I normally find myself.

I had a nice race in BL.Nowhere near the front.

Ok I was talking from a racing perspective. It's not a question of right or wrong, it's just part of racing. Saying it's wrong is the same as saying climbers shouldn't go up mountains that fast.

In the other batches I guess it becomes a bit more of a team time trial, but dunno how you get guys to work together. For my interest, is your guys' only target time? And if yes, compared to who or what?
