I am going to do Oak Valley tomorrow, which bike would you recommend for a heavy, semi fit, low skilled cyclist?

Hardtail 29' er Scott or

Giant Anthem X2 26'er

Both will be fine. Nothing there really requires a dual suspension, but one or two of the Black sections will be funner or a slacker bike. Scott 29er's are usually slack for what it is. Most of the riding is flat, easy single track. Just those pesky black sections...

Hardtail will be ample for OV, some flowing sections thats probably a bit more fun on a dual- but not out of a terrain point of view

I took the full suspension. Had fun. It is really smooth and flowing and non technical (and dare I say easy?).I would suggest Oak valley is the ideal place for a rookie to be introduced to single track, the bridges over the fences being the only obstacles of note.

The bike wash and showers sets a standard for others to follow.
