Worst Cycling Purchase

ummm... standard size (25.4mm) only differ from oversize (31.8mm) in the centre where the stem clamps. Surely you aren't running your bell next to the stem?!

The diameter at the ends (where your grips, shifters, and brake levers clamp) is the same between standard size and oversize.

I don't have the widest bars since I'm on the small side. And the bar is already cluttered with grips, light and speedometer. :)

I also prefer bottles but my new bike only takes one as well. Don't have a problem carrying a camelback but I agree, it's a mission to keep clean.

Follow these simple steps:

Get yourself a big enough Ziploc bag that will accommodate the bladder (You can fold it in half)

Rinse the bladder after EVERY ride if you ride with anything other than water

Pour all the water out, fold the bladder in half and put it in the Ziploc bag.

Squeeze all the air out the bag and seal.

PLace the bag in the vege drawer in your fridge until your next ride.

I have been doing this for the last 5 years and I have never had a science project grow in the bladders.

It is a good idea to mix up a cupful of Milton and a litre of water and let that stand in the bladder for 24hrs every few months (3-6 months) as well. Gets rid of anything that might be there that you can't see.

I carry a bottle on hot rides to pour on my head only. I got jippos once from a dirty bottle riding in the valley behind Westmead. Never drank from a bottle again.

As a lover of all things Celeste it pains me say it:

Late 1990's Bianchi 'Team Issue'(HaHa) MTB. It had cable actuated hydraulic disc brakes called 'trymax' and you really did have to. It had a head angle of about 73deg and tried to kill me every time i rode it. Weighed about 15Kg. I hated it, loved the cool as **** martini paint job though, totally regret selling it.

During a year in the Middle East I managed to lay my hands on a US Military spec Camelbak bladder. The most remarkable antimicrobial plastic I've ever seen - I'm really bad with post-ride cleaning and have never had the slightest hint of a science project in there. Then again, I also only fill it with water...

As for worst purchase, that's got to go to Time ATAC pedals. Got them on my first MTB - almost impossible to clip out of in a pinch, and somehow allow your foot to roll sideways over the side of the pedal. R 100 Giant pedals and plakkies would be a better combo.

oh dear.... I have a set of these (26") still unused (got them middle of 2013). Seems I made a bum purchase without even knowing it looking at two comments in the thread. Oh well...

I've had no problem with mine...made them tubelessa nd used then till they were bare!!

What's the problem???

must be the camelpak, i never use. got it with my first bike, after 5 rides realized water-bottle is the way to go.

It must be because you purchased a knock-off brand?? My Camelbak works just fine...especially on long rides!! :whistling: :whistling:

Worse single buy was a set of 400mm wide bars for cross country.... Idiot.

Worst combined buy has to be this little beauty. Only thing i couldn't find were the sky / neon blue Assos shorts that were killing it when I started racing.
