Before doing Groenies, have you tried some of the routes at Fort Klapperkop....nice routes get going and for free. Some are very stiff and can give a good workout.

Follow the tan line thread for "fun in the sun"........

.......any gentle MTBers out there that can assist.......(waiting in anticipation and suspense for the witty replies).......

If you stick to the roads and some of the paths its fine for beginners, but agree some of the routes are a bit technically challenging, which probably why its so popular.

Thing is to know what is beyond your skills and dismount when necessary. Thats one of the first things you must learn about mountain biking, hopefully not the hard / expensive way.

Groenkloof is not ideal for beginners imo. Some parts are technical - several of my riding buddies have wiped out hard there, and they are all experienced riders, multiple Epic finishers etc. Two of them spent time in hospital.

Rosemary Hill is a better option for beginners.

Hi all...anyone interested in joining me over Weekends @ Groenkloof Nature Resort?

I'm only a Beginner so just do it for fun in the sun :)

When do you usually cycle there? Weekends before/or after work? Maybe we can meet up sometime :-)

+1 for Rosemary Hill - there's only really once section that is really scary (I have my own issues on other bits) but where is says Brakes On - i read that as Noob off - but a lovely ride - nice manageable distance - little jumps where you can get some air if so desired - really pretty and safe environment.

Groenies is great for beginners. In fact fountains (Gasp) can also be beginner friendly. Just takes the right "ride captain" to shepherd every one through.

If you want an easy ride there are some good pieces of gravel. If you want to start learning to ride single track, it is also excellent. I have piloted a number of NOOBIES through it all without any injuries.

this weekend is a bit chaotic, but I am interested to get back into early sunday morning routine.

No problem 'Captain' :)

I was actually planning to ride with my son alone this weekend; since he is not so in the game as yet and I'm trying to motivate him by giving him the lead ..

If all goes well I will love to start riding with the groups on sunday 2 march; a good time for me is around 7 ;)

Marilyn, We are a group of people (mostly belong to my 4x4 club based in Centurion) who are all at different levels, and ride week nights (Haeia Safaris, Rosemary Hill, Kia Modderfontein) and over weekends (Same places, but also Northern Farms, Groenkloof etc.) and then any available 'race' - and its ladies, men & kids - from 10km, to the half marathons. Happy to put you on the distribution list. Son is a good motivator - 15, started last year, seeding at A level already, so he will get your son going... send me a PM, and I will put you on weekly 'newsletter & upcoming' activities email list...its a great sport!
