So i am busy with a CX bike build. I am planning to use a Chinese frame with mechanical discs etc, so no problem there.

The issues and questions arise around wheels. Has anyone got any advice wrt wheels seen as though I will be using disc wheels?

My questions arise around tyres - what width rims to run, what rims to run, what tires to run using road disc. I would be using mechanical CX 77 calipers on 105 or Ultegra shifters.

Will 29er MTB wheels fit assuming axle widths are correct?

Has anyone got any experience in this area or know anyone that can guide me around this.

I would like to build a one size conquers all bike - something i can ride on road but when i decide to go down a side road that is dirt i want to be able to do it.

Seems like the wheels are critical to this and there is a lot of confusing information.

Try these: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/80553-xc29er-carbon-wheels/

I have Canti brakes on my CX bike and run normal road rims; mostly Mavic open pros but once or twice a set of Enves. They both work fine.

Either have a set or road rims built onto disk hubs, or look at a nice and light set of 29er wheels. You can run 35mm tyres on either.

I saw this set of CX disc wheels on thehubsa yesterday

https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/79318-cyclocross-disc-wheelset-price-drop/

xt or xtr hubs(for super solid) or Shimano CX75 Hubs(Ultegra CX disk) on open pros or tandems rims, 32 to 36 hole

700c is pretty much 28 inches so 29' should be good unless there is a super tight tolerance between the wheel and seat tube.

19c to 21c rims should be ideal for 35c tires. Bigger the tire, bigger the rim. If the rim is to narrow or wide, handling and safety are compromised

Kenda make some rad 35c tires. the kwest is cheap heavy and close to indestructible.

would definitely consider getting a set built for your purpose tho. If you have access to a good wrench it helps. And a custom set that is well built makes for a good ride and lets you match everything nicely

Im using the mavic crossride rim and hub on a BMC Granfondo2 frame solid carbon front fork with conti gatorskin 28mm pumped to 7 bar for the road and conti 35mm xking for dirt road etc pumped to 6.5bar, Ive fitted a flatbar with xt shifters and xt hydraulic brakes and a 105 crank 50/38 front chainrings group with rear 11-28 rear cassette, a very comfortable ride.I did have to put on a XT rear derailleur as the road one is not 100% compatible. I weigh in at 96 kgs.
