The first 24hr I attended (Rietvlei 2011) there was a guy who rode it barefoot

Not sure if its the same one but there is a guy who rides all MTB races barefoot as he cant wear shoes.

I just wear cheap Maxed socks from Mr Price. Don't know if they would be sufficient for the Epic!?

If they are under R300 per pair then they are surely not going to survive a couple of days riding your bicycle around the Cape.

Who knows... you only wear them 1 day on the Epic and then throw them away... :)

Adidas Classics thin socks in black, those are the imported ones not like the normal local Adidas socks which are just ok. Thin, super soft and very hard wearing. Also look pretty decent and only about R60 a pop, Adidas shops and some sports scene have them
