March 2014.This may be old news but I could not locate any reference to it here. A young (24) woman was killed on her commute back home in Milnerton from work at Century City. A car hit her and she sustained multiple broken bones and brain damage with no hope of recovery.

My wife works with her boyfriends mom. Its getting ridiculous out there. Be careful and ride defensively.

This sucks alls. Being on the bike most of the days you see just how stupid car drivers are.

Most of them are freaken idiots when they get behind a steering wheel.

Very sad. The roads in and out of Century City roads are poorly planned and over used.

Agreed. I've noticed that I more annoyed and frustrated with the idiocy of drivers when I'm a driver myself than when I'm on my bike.

Wow thanks for letting us know. I drive through Century City every morning as a shorter route onto the N1 rather than take the N7 offramp and the traffic has been particularly bad for the past 4 months or so since they are doing serious roadworks. Not sure if it was this bit that she was using.

I tried to commute to work from Edgemead a couple of times, but Bosmansdam road is the only way onto the cycle path and leaving anything after 6.15am was a death wish, so after doing this just once and dodging cars and busses I left it. My sympathies to her family.

All roads out of Century City during peak hours are very congested and drivers are extremely impatient to get out of there. The way they change lanes make it very unsafe to cycle in that area at peak hours. However, there is no excuse for reckless/negligent driving. There are also many commuter cyclists coming out of the area. The two main entrances/exits at Montague Gardens and Sable Road are especially bad.

There is also never traffic police around to observe the bad behaviour of motorists.

It is always sad when any cyclists is hurt or die in an accident. We need to be cautious but must carry on!

I hear there is a group of cyclists, particularly from Edgemead, that are trying to organise a safer option over the bosmansdam road. That is a dangerous section there.

If this is the same accident I think it is, it took place 21/03/2014. I work with the parent of the young woman who died. From what I heard it's a courier driver......I've seen many courier vans moving like TAXIS on the road
