BSG Posted April 8, 2014 Share Just had the grips cleaned. Thinking of getting black grips and seat.I had one back in the 80's with exactly the same brake levers as this one. Eric Cartman

Eric Cartman Posted April 22, 2014 Share Refresher update: Yesterday I opened the Grease Monkey Garage as I finally made a decision of how I will be proceeding with this. I have ordered the right stickers for the bike and they arrived last week. Since then I have been thinking about how I will be proceeding as I do not want to apply them on a frame and fork that is not in "new / fresh" condition. This is what the bike looked like before I started stripping it: http://s26.postimg.org/kccyx3sax/20140421_165219.jpg This is the frames current condition: http://s26.postimg.org/q4d34924p/20140421_165228.jpghttp://s26.postimg.org/ceijvgf0p/20140421_165234.jpghttp://s26.postimg.org/gnsbuqoll/20140421_165240.jpghttp://s26.postimg.org/jf6jo8gsp/20140421_165248.jpghttp://s26.postimg.org/pqbr4ni15/20140421_165253.jpghttp://s26.postimg.org/wxdg0isy1/20140421_165300.jpg So after thinking about re-chroming vs colour coating it I have gone with the latter and decided on having the frame and fork coloured. I will be going with a White F&F and the rest will be polished and Black touches. Grease monkey opened: http://s26.postimg.org/cxnn4q6fd/IMG_20140421_170901.jpg Stickers that arrived: http://s26.postimg.org/latbze5mx/20140417_162231.jpg This is how the bike is currently: http://s26.postimg.org/7v6b9xx55/20140421_183143_Aladin.jpg So step number 1 is to send the frame and fork away for colour. In the interim I will be on the search looking for a Black Kashimax seat, Black Mongoose grips, Silver or Black Dia Compe seat post clamp and fresh tyres. <- the wishlist nonky and ChUkKy
Skylark Posted April 22, 2014 Share Fine steel wool will remove most of that surface rust, it's not bad and then just keep it polished regularly with good car polish like meguiars to stop it popping up again. That frame as is rubbed down with steel wool and fresh stickers will look awesome as is, needs to show a little bit of age so people know it's the real thing, legit product! I agree with you entirely. But I always had a thing about a white mongoose like the Eric Rupe ones. I am going for it with this one though. If I bump my head I will change it back or find another frame. But this one will be rebuilt to my vision. Its a riding bike and I want it to have my own touches and not just a historic piece of BMXing. Before I do send it away thought I will clean it off as you say and post up the pics of it complete and polished so that you can see the difference.
