"At no time was there an attack on the descent, and we heard nothing of neutralisation, neither from the race organisation nor from the team car... I don't understand why there is controversy. Besides, we entered the split, but the biggest gap was actually made into the final climb towards Val Martello."

Dunno seems controversy still brewing....

Tinkoff-Saxo’s Polish rider Rafał Majka fell from third overall to fifth, and posted on Facebook that he’d believed the stage had been neutralized.

“Everything collapsed up on the Passo dello Stelvio,” he wrote. “My teammates were setting a high pace for me, and we almost caught the breakaway. At the top of the Cime Coppi there were about 40 riders , including Uran and Evans. We all stopped at the top, because by the radio we were informed that the downhill is to be neutralized due to snowfall. So we dressed up so as not to get sick during the cold junction. In the meantime, however, Quintana, Hesjedal, and Rolland went away and did 2.5 minutes difference on the downhill. The race was to begin after the Stelvio downhill, and in the meantime the rules were not the same for everyone. A lot of teams , including of course, Tinkoff-Saxo, made a protest to the organizers. I’ll see what happens, but either way I still want to prove that the Giro is not over for me.”

Yep...

"Recordings of the announcement quickly appeared on the internet. While the word 'neutralisation' was not said, the race radio announcer said motorbikes would fly a red flag 'to avoid that there are attack on the descent, to ensure that the riders hold their position and avoid taking huge risks. They should hold that position until the official lower the red flags."

I just came off a 3h spinning session while watching this absolute epic cycling drama. I was snugly in my house sweating like a pig and still it felt like freezing to me. These guys are unbelievable. I predicted Q for the win. He was not looking sick on Sunday anymore. I have even more respect for Evans now - he knows it is the end, but still he battled like a Trojan. Uran has not left the building yet. He will turn himself inside out on the TT. Q will wear the pink all the way to the end. MAGNIFICENT!

Just been watching highlights. Commentators made mention of how many young riders are at the sharp end of things. Anyone predict a future Tour winner amongst them?

Quintana in a few days

Still blown away by his climbing yesterday. Didn't seem to be bothered to have to do most of the work myself, and then cool as a cucumber - no celebration - as he crossed the line.

!!!

There's a lot of controversy brewing about some receiving comms on race radio that the descent is neutralized, with several motos with red flags, while some teams like Movistar and Garmin' say they did not receive such comms.

Oi!

The time gained on the descend by Quintana have assisted him to a healthy lead in the Maglia Rosa.

CLEARLY THE ORGANISERS ARE RESPONSIBLE, but they're denying any error.

I think Quintana sums it up best:

"I don't understand why there is a polemic (dispute). I made up more time on the climb, we didn't make so much on the descent," said Quintana.

Wouldn't be right to penalise him.
