Stopped there for dinner one night during load shedding, but they were only able to make limited food so we left. After having to pay R90 for two 500ml still waters, I will not be back in a rush.

What is very odd is Italy has such a strong cycling culture. There are churches dedicated to cycling. Monuments to cyclists. Then there is this fake SA take on it. Like a certain casino

Whilst at Varsity we used to got to stay in the very dodge Esplanade hotel in East London when down for the annual Buffalo rowing regatta.

With delusions of grandeur their dress code required "Jacket and Tie" to be worn at dinner.

So that is what we wore........

HAHAHA!!! Reminds me of Round Table days. Endless hooliganism

Oh yes? Why is that? I don't get what you mean?

He is not fond of roadies as it may appear.

The profile pic on the other hand looks like it's from half or full Ironman unless it's an Xtrerra, too small to see.

If that be the case, he bought himself a MTB recently and has now joined the club that all roadies are to be hated .

I could be wrong .

I think it odd. I like all kinds of cycling. This forum is for cyclists. But it seems some MTB guys so insecure they would rather support motorists, runners, rude restaurant owners than another cyclist.

we can debate this in circles,,

IT SIMPLY MAKES NO SENSE,,,, but the guy who put a few bar down to start the spot has made his choice, i just  wouldnt support him when i am dressed "appropriately" IN HIS EYES  when i am in those woods thats all

like i tell my staff "thanks for your input,,but put your money down and buy shares if im doing it wrong"  :whistling:

wayne if you feel that strongly about it buy the shop, MAKE A HUGE BANNER and say under new management WE ONLY ACCEPT SMELLY STINKY CYCLISTS

:whistling:  :whistling:

I feel like I've got the full hub experience after reading this thread.

What's everyone's issue with a dress code? It's a private establishment and they can choose to do business however they see fit. They're not barring cyclists, just the lycra outfits. I get the impression some people have a victim complex.

I personally like the new style of moderation. It makes this forum into a useful resource. We can learn stuff without being constantly derailed by people looking for attention.

Coffee and a meal after a ride is part of the ride for me. Pleased to be getting a heads up as to who doesn't want my business.

If you want to eat there sooo badly , ride a half hour earlier ,go home and shower.

If they don't want people in cycling kit , sweating up the place then it's their choice..

Never said I wanted to eat there. I said I appreciated the information that I would not be welcome there. Saves me the irritation of being turned away. I also expressed some surprise at their policy as cycling, and road cycling in particular, is such an integral part of Italian culture and this is an Italian restaurant.

It is, but I think it might be a good management decision. Most non-cycling people see cyclists as arrogant road hoggers (sad reality)... and probably don't want them infiltrating their restaurant too. Us getting upset by this just goes further to reinforce their view.

If they have not done a commercial model on the implications of turning certain demographics away and are just doing this on a whim, then silly them :)

True , however you are on your bike so getting 'turned away' isn't like your first date on Valentines day with all the good restaurants fully booked, It's more like Oh ok lets get back on our bikes there's another place 20 meters down the road .
