I'm with Wyatt - Go till you blow. Go stand riiiight in the front, and just hammer it. If someone yells "Trek" they're complimenting you on how fast you're going . as in "Did you see that guy trek out front"

Stay in the bunch

It saves energy

Should you start to lose the bunch as you are in the red, say good-bye to the bunch

Once isolated, recover and enjoy the scenery

Hop into the next bunch

And don't forget the GoPro! If you cans wing it, three: One on your bars facing forward, one on your bars upwards towards your face, and one under your seat to show everyone you've passed.

As your first ride and not done much distance riding you might struggle to stay with the bunch for long, but do as best as you can to feel what bunch riding is like. Just hold your line and not weave.

If the bunch leave you, then look for other riders riding at your pace and tag along, if you can draft (suck wheel) it will save your legs.

If you are riding on your own just enjoy the ride, the scenery and the vibe and satisfy each challenge of climbing a hill with a smile and an even bigger grin when you finish. Your aim is to finish your first race.

Just got back from my week long holiday in Durban.

I COMPLETED THE RACE!!

Thanks people. It took me about 4h50 to finish and I was still fine at the end. I had no idea how to pace myself and rode alone most of the way.

Once again- many thanks
