Travelling to Lake Como to do some riding with hubby. Any hubbers out there cycled in the area and hired a bike? We are looking between Rental Bike Italy and Lake Como Cycling. Anyone had experience with other companies?

If you have not hired but cycled in the area route tips would be appreciated too! :)

Goodness, that sounds incredible! That is a beautiful area of f a beautiful country.

Although I haven't cycled there myself, I had a quick look online and it appears there are a lot of cycling routes and tours that are available in the area. The tours have an option to include bike rental.

Check out there sites for more information:

Make sure sure you cycle up to the to Ghisallo cycling museum. It's hard but worth the effort for the views.

You beat me to it: Madonna del Ghisalo is a must. Below is a ride I sometimes spin to. Gives a good sense of the route.

Enjoy!

Hello Lact.

Just curious as to why you decided Lake Como ?

Its a very touristy area, i.e. very unnecessarily expensive and does not stand out for cycling.

Example, in SA you could do the Tokai forest or the Argus route.

You opted to do the ride around Hartebeespoort dam?

Having said that, try and bring your own bike, and to stay in one of the towns around the lake, not necessarily Como.

(the hiring of a decent bike - converted back to rands, and you will have bought a new bike)

Enjoy yourself, as this is a beautiful part of Italy.

The full round trip around the lake, looks like an upside-down Y is roughly 200km.

Ditto - a must visit. Just make sure the museum is still open, there was rumours about funding etc.

I have a hard copy 'manual' and set of maps/routes created by the Italian tourist organisation specifically for cycling in the area. Welcome to borrow/take a look if you want. I'm in CT

You are lucky. Been there about 4 years ago. You will see plenty of Euro pros cycling in that area. Cyclists take the train from Milan to ride in that area. One of the coolest places I have ever been

Enjoy

Dude are you seriously comparing Como to Harties?

In comparison with the other more famous and organised cycling routes in Italy - yes. Do you understand the example made? There are a lot better rides, Como is just touristy and a ripoff since George Clooney made it fashionable.

He he not going to lie this made me laugh. Belated honeymoon trip to Italy beats the Argus route that I do often. Cape Town is beautiful though ! Have spoken to enough cyclists that have ridden there that it is one of the most beautiful places to ride ! Not riding the whole time in Italy so have opted for the expensive hiring bikes option.

I've been fortunate enough to have a holiday at Bellagio on lake Como. It is right in the "crotch" of the lake. Was beautiful! Unfortunately I had not re-started my cycling career at the time so did not go around with a cycling mindset. There are amazing villiages, plenty of mountains, great views, tons of good food & wine. To be honest, I am quite jealous!!

I hope you have a blast!
