Snytjie Posted November 5, 2014 Share 12 weeks to go! Will be my 1st 70.3 Looking for some advice. What are the odds that it will be a wetsuit legal race? Should I consider getting a wetsuit? Where should I be in my training now? I am capable of doing each of the 3 disciplines on its own at a pace better than what I am targeting for the 70.3 But the wheels came off the other day when I combined a 10 km run/70 km ride/5km run. My pace with the 2nd run leg was terrible, almost 1 min/km longer than what I am targeting. The 1st run leg and bike leg was done at 70.3 race pace. It was a flat easy course, no swim leg and only 70km/15km in total. Should I be worried about my endurance or is it still to early? Last question is Brick sessions. What should I aim for in the next months? Should I build up to a 90/21 (by early Jan) or should I keep to short brick sessions (e.g. 50/10)? ThanksThis year was my first East London race. Even though I knew that the bike route was tough, I was still unpleasantly surprised at how dead my legs were at the start of the run. From now until taper week I'm riding plenty hills/hard trainer sessions with short fast runs (5km max) thereafter. Kerchak
Kerchak Posted November 5, 2014 Share At Xterra earlier this year I overcooked the MTB and walked the 12k run. With Afriman I kept a steady pace on the bike, but the 2nd run leg was still tough. Still a learning curve how to save my legs for the run. I read somewhere that you need to slow down with +/- 20% of your capability during the bike leg. What do you recommend? Can I offer some advice. it took me 8 years to realise this and since racing has been awesome. Plan your whole day around the run. If you can run your time as planned then you will have a great day end of story. When on the bike tell yourself all the time that you still need to run. If you run as planned then you will also do a PB. Running well is awesome as you really enjoy the crowds and it is always important to end whatever you do well cause that's the part you will remember. Also rather take 2 minutes extra in T2 and make sure you are comfortable going out on the run (even if this means new dry clothes and washing your face and cleaning your glasses etc. People get carried away with racing other athletes and the crowd and then you push yourself into the red zone too often on the bike. It only take 2 or 3 minutes in the red zone on the bike to ruin your run. The easiest way to achieve this is to set a target max HR and to stay below it end of story. bigjoe, Wheelsuck, Curbie and 2 others

davem Posted November 10, 2014 Share I wonder what Dave said (being a biker and all) Its all about the bike (leg). Running is to give those who ride slow a chance (Translation: I wish I could run like ol' pussy cat) Garfield2010

mon-goose Posted November 10, 2014 Share sorry to hear that bclark. Hope your wife gets well soon and that the doctors can sort everything out. Once she's well there'll always be another year to do it. Family first.

Oxter Posted November 10, 2014 Share I am looking for an entry. Can anyone help? you cant buy an entry from someone for this event...there is a huge waiting list. if someone pulls out they should let the organizers know, and then it just gets transferred to the next guy on the waiting list.
