We got hit by a bread truck this morning who jumped a stop street, cut the corner and hit us on the wrong side of the road. Front rider hurt and bike buggered. I was second wheel and hurt right shoulder, elbow and hip and bike is scratched.

It all happened so quick but seemed like it was in slow motion. The guy in front was up there cos he has the strongest lights. I have 2 front lights, 3 back lights but that does nothing when the drivers on our roads don't pay attention and don't give a damn about us.

Wife has just phones me to say she has been rear ended by another car on her way back from gym.

Today is not a good day.

Dude, I have moaned about these bread okes on numerous occasions!!!! They ride like @ssholes.  I have contacted Blue Ribbon and Albany, but no reply.  I have confronted one of their drivers once, but I just got the standard "see what you can do about it" reply.  Maybe mail any- and everyone you can get hold of at the bread company the URL to this thread so they can see the reaction!

Yip, it's war out there and nobody is safe.  The Yak got hit in Cape Town yesterday by a driver who did not pay attention.  His elbow got caught by the passenger side mirror and he hit the car and went down.  Just some bruises luckily, but it could have been worse!

It was an Albany truck and we took all the details, photo's and the drivers name. He is lucky one of the guys didn't beat him up. Will definately take it further.

I am not surprised because Albany and Blue Ribbon drivers nearly knocked me over 2/3 times for the past 6months near Fish hoek and Hout Bay. When you see them, better move away from them, but it is difficult.

I think those drivers don't know their size of the trucks

We have a group of about 25 guys that ride most days of the week. Due to the motorist we have in KZN (am sure its worse in JHB)  we take turns to drive behind our group of cyclists. The following vehicle has an orange light on it and stays behind the majority of the group. A member of the group keeps a roster going and we get to drive once a month or so.

In the year or so that we have had this backup vehicle running, it has improved the safety alot. The backup vehicle also carry a spare set of wheels (if the driver has a set as well) as a foot pump, levers, spare tubes and a bike rack.

I am not sure if this backup vehicle would have helped with the bread truck this AM but the lights of the vehicle might have made the driver of the bread truck more aware of the on comming cyclist.
