Brand new for 2014 in the MTN National MTB Series Driven by NISSAN is Van Gaalen. The Van Gaalen trails have built up quite a reputation over the years as being the hardest event in the NISSAN Trailseeker series. We felt it has graduated to qualify as a National status event for 2014.

Hey Guys,

I met with Erik from van Gaalens on Friday.

Marathon & Half Routes will be 80% similar to Trailseeker Van Gaalens 2013.

Got some distance changes obviously to meet with the demand of the National level race status... eg. 40->45km 70-75km etc.

Because the race is over two days you'll have nice small batches spread out, and large batch gaps.

I'll draft the provisional routes tomorrow for you.

The Ultra will have some additional sick.. and I mean sick climbing... #spoiler alert............

We had a National downhill in the magalies a couple years ago, we are going up here, with some switchbacks and fast technical downhills.

To marathon or not to?

Yes this is a big one, so come prepared with Plans A, B, C and D. Positive attitude important, although everyone seems to succumb to sense of humour failure but the time they hit the Greek Church.

At least I've done the Greek church a couple of times, but I can see how the humor can fail when you are tired (especially the bit above the church).

Think I will put in some good training over the next few weeks!
