The biggest problem is, or what i think those guys will be thinking is... The sprint finish is a dangerous and risky place to be... Crash-Wise. Alot of like what has happened to the females especially, crash at the argus your epic is over...

These guys , in my opinion came here to win the epic! So there's always that in the back of their mind...

Indeed it is.

I'm sure if you forced all the riders to ride the August on mountain bikes and make the last 1km or so a bit of a sandy rutted uphill jeep track Sauser and Platt will do some serious damage and win by a mile

Agree, but if I read Sauser's time in the Argus he pretty looks like he was in the thick of things in the end, so I don't think that is an issue with him

What about Nino S now he's off racing on the black top with Orica Green Edge?

Shhhh.. he is back on the MTB and kicking but..

But yeah.. he is another beast that one.

I remember a moutain biker winning the Burger a couple of years back in a sprint, so not impossible. I dont think Sauser got the kick though.

He needs another 90min of racing time, 1000m ascent and an uphill finish and he would be in with a big shout.

Agreed ya.

In Pro tour terms, the Argus would be considered a sprinters stage with only one Category 4 climb (Suikerbossie). Someone like Cavendish would win in a sprint finish.

So tell me, can Sauser train to get this sprinter's 'kick' or is this only a build/genetic thing?

I think you need a lot of fast twitch muscle to sprint well. Most of your ability will be genetic. The individual needs to optimise it though.

I'm sure he will be able to improve, but to match a pure sprinter is a long way to go.
