WHEN I GET EMAILS POLICY SCHEDUAL UPDATE

i spend some quality alone time and go over it 100%, normally the changes are so subtle you wont pick them up

What if you actullly never received the mail ?

It went missing in cyberspace, it happens all the time.

I didn't see it as a rant either but CycleSure has screwed their client here. Their business proposition is to offer a service tailored to cyclists specifically but they've offered no more assistance to Carpet than she would have received going direct to Hollard so ultimately they're just another business using a superficial brand position to skim their cut from the premiums. If that's the case then I think they don't deserve the support of this sizable community based solely on having a name with the word cycle in it.

Correct! We are targets of crime and it is a slap in the face that anyone should require "violence" as a prerequisite for a claim. ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING!!

was with cycle sure, got the email with all the new disclaimers.

Left them and went to Miway MTB.

No small print, covered for theft / accidental damage without 100's of little conditions cyclesure attached.

And they are cheaper.

You can just picture the scene as the victim hands over the bike to the criminal "take it but please dont shoot me. Oh hang on... Would a small flesh wound be out of the question?"

I had the exact same issue with Cyclesure in Jan.

I had a bike stolen out of my garage during the day (a saturday) while i was at home.

My wife had just left to go shopping, so the side/pedestrian door to the garage was closed but not locked.

This (according to police CSI) is where the theif/theives gained access.

The bike was chained up at the time with the correct chain and lock as stipulated by my policy.

After the whole procedure, police statements, case numbers, claim forms, detective visits, affadavits, photographing the scene for them, Cyclesure's questioning became more and more detailed: What kind of chain? What diameter? What kind of lock? End result: Declined due to "No sign of forced entry" Yes I agree! that's what all my statements said, that's what the cops said. I questioned how ridiculous it is that when I am at home during the day I must not only chain my bikes up, but must also lock the garage side door (which is well inside my property) every time I or my wife or either of my kids use it. It's where we do the laundry, feed the dogs, fix bikes, make stuff, etc. Cyclesure's response: Take it up with the Ombudsman.

My lesson learned here is: If you have insurance make sure you follow the conditions to the letter. They mean it.

Also made me think, if i followed every little piece of Cyclesure's fineprint the chances of the bike being stolen would be almost non existant anyway, so who needs insurance.

Good luck Carpet, I see on another thread guys are rallying round to help.

NIce to see, restores a little faith in humanity.

Simply because they know it's painful and labouring and most people will see it as 'not worth their time'

The more and more I am reading, the more I am thinking 'one cancellation coming up'

Their fine print is more intense than the roots I have for hair.

I can vouch for indie broker / Santam combo, was tailgated by another vehicle recently with bike on bikerack and they paid out without any hassle. I must add that my bike was specified - not sure if that is the same as all risks?

I have a friend who sits on the OSTI board, and she reckons the ombud's office is fairly efficient. She also recently published a "report card" on insurers, according to the ombud's annual report. Will post a link later.

maybe something good can come from this. Can we not compile a list of scenarios eg. being tailgated, being at a stage race overnight, being hijacked etc etc. Then get some companies to answer in writing. They could get a bunch of new clients. The Hub brokerage!

Ummm... One Cyclesure cancellation coming right up. Who would you guys recommend as an indie broker/where do I find such a person? Is that the same guy that phones you up from XYZ and greets you with "Good day Mr Such&Such, is now a convenient time to talk?" or is it more of a specialist?

I need to do a complete review of my insurance policy. Currently with Cyclecure & Outsurance but have no idea if I'm properly covered. Usually switch off when I read T&C's as well (to my own detriment...)...

Have any of you actually read through the uploaded policy on the first page to see if I have interpreted it correctly?

Carpet, thank you for this.

Will be cancelling and referring them to this thread.

I am just scared that they won't pay out should I be mugged while riding, because the bike wasn't locked.
