Do you know what you are covered for / Cyclesure?

Well lets see if and how they change their policy.

Time will tell.. would be actually rather nice if an insurance company actually started taking their clients needs into consideration.

I have also been a Cyclesure customer for a long time but will also be checking the policy and compare with other companies. I will most propably be posting a few questions next week to Cyclesure as well and if they are not going to be able to answer properly I will also be hitting the cancel button.

I remember some time ago someone had a problem with the assessor after a frame was cracked that he attributed to general wear and tear. I am not sure how qualified these assessors are but there has been way too many problems highlighted about Cyclesure.

If I move I can say this, I will not be moving to Santam. I have had my fare share of fights with them as well.

There were only two good things of this saga ... 2. Clarification on the hijacking clause.

When did that happen?

"Nick" himself has conceded they do not want to set precedent. What mandate, if any, has he got to bind Hollard? By his own admission he is at best an eavesdropper of the conversations of persons at a higher pay grade than himself.

and I know already three people that have had their electronic equipment fried. We are not talking a quick surge either...we are talking about constant surge causing chargers to catch fire and plugs to get spat out of their sockets

no amount of locks or security measures will prevent that

as for a bike...well if its 20k...you may get away with not insuring it...but what if its 30, 40 100k....

Hi Stretch,

Agreed. Maybe I have been lucky, or its the surge protection on the DB and the protection on the multi-plugs that have saved the day. Took a direct hit from lightning, lost a bit of plaster off an outside wall, but no appliances affected. The surge did need replacing.

Replacement on the bikes would be close to what you said: R25k, R45k & R108k. Will I ever insure them? Never.

Hub's a funny place.

A member posts an apology for acting like a chop, response: "It takes a brave person to apologise! Clap, clap!"

A company posts an apology and fixes the situation, response: "BURN THE WITCH!"

The Hub is made of a large number of people with diverse interests and past experiences. It is not always the same people commenting on every topic.

There is no homogenous HUB.

Case in point: you think Nick is stand up guy, I think the people behind the Hollard avatar that call themselves "Nick" are still in spin mode and have not said anything new. I grant you that only one person can type at a time though. Probably.

In essence, Nick is saying that the policy wording is to protect their profits against us. If I were to try to defraud Hollard, (to be a "non-Hubber" to use Nick's patronising waffle), do you seriously think I would be so stupid so as not to fake a forceful entry to my property?

Carpet would not have received her payment had it not been for the Hub.

Now "he is a Jolly Good Fellow"!!

Pass the Vas again please........................

Paragraphs have also proved to be a useful invention in keeping people's interest.

Sorry Joe, but like Cyclesure, I did put a disclaimer right at the top of the post...

1. Congrats to Hollard for continuing to respond under the fire.

2. Congrats to Hollard for settling (even if it is ex gratia) Carpets claim.

3. Congrats for clarifying the hijacking issue.

4. Bad on you for avoiding the direct questions and hypothetical situations that are most common concerns to cyclists.

5. Bad on you for not offering a product that is truly ALL RISK and covers, at least, our most common concerns.

Unfortunately, until an actual all risk option is available, I will be looking for alternatives. Until then, I guess that I can only hope and pray that someone who has access to my property doesn't steal my dear bike. Or for that matter from a multi-stage race (I guess that I will need to sleep with my bike in my tent?!)

How ironic, just picked this up from another thread:

"A guy working at the house doing light maintenance stole my bike during Jumuah prayers and is obviously no where to be seen. It is insured but my Garmin Edge 500 and 1200 Lumen light not. I was already at cash crusaders to alert them."

Hope he is not with Cyclesure!!!

Quite a few times, a few pages back, and quite definitively at that

He identified himself and set out his authority to bind Hollard? I must have missed that.

No. He set out the classification of a bike jacking and confirmed that it need not be violent to be considered forceful.

I saw that part. He also said there was no repudiation, that we didn't understand the process, but had to concede that "technically" there had to have been a repudiation If an ex gratia payment is made. Well, legally too Mac.

My point is that Hub pressure got Carpet an ex gratia payment. Unless Hollard formally change their policies nothing has changed

Another issue that is probably going to make me move away from Cyclesure, is the frame crack issue. What happens should the frame crack and it is out of guarantee with the supplier? It may have been due to a fall a while ago, but i only notice it now due to perhaps a "hairline crack" not visible at the time. Cyclesure will claim material failure and refuse to pay.

If it is still within the supplier guarantee but the frame type is unavailable, what happens then?

I am concerned because it can happen to any frame on any day, and then you are buggered!

I find that now with winter approaching my Nobby Nic tyres are very sketchy over wet roots - Not confidence inspiring at all. Kind of how this thread has made me feel about Cyclesure/Hollard (One and the same to me! dont tell me to rather speak to this one or that.... just take responsibility)

Even after all the spins i was sent on after reading the Hollard posts - Not confidence inspiring at all!!!!

I am a cyclists and that is how i want to be treated. Understand the circumstances/situations i am faced with being a cyclist.... is that so hard?

Exactly. In fact, Carpet had had her claim rejected and the Hub had already clubbed together to make an Ex-Gratia payment to her. So she is hardly better off.

Also, there is and always was ample proof that she is not the patronised "unscrupulous Non-hubber" Hollard used to justify their policy wording, yet they treated her as one.

For a new frame in the region of R8000, they sure tarnished their reputation. Their response is a vain attempt at damage limitation.
