Having the GSA serviced. saw this scooter. Don’t see them here in my hood. But have seen a few in Europe. 14 grand. Now I know why I don’t see em. Range around 60 miles. I ain’t even had breakfast yet at 60 miles and will need all the energy to push to my destination. 500 pounds is lot to push.

I told her the Motorcycle Hubbers say I have a good wife.  She said please to remind everyone it was also her who told me to buy them as well...

You can tell her she is just bragging now :P

So the old oil leak/sweat that the KTM had I thought would have been sorted when we replaced the hairline cracked stator cover, did not go away.

Took her back to the KTM dudes who took another look and are in two minds as to the leak.

1. The nice leak = o-rings at the fuel pump.

2. The ugly leak = the base gaskets, both of them on the v-twin.

The KTM dudes cleaned the motor up nicely, and I collected her today in order to put a bit of mileage on her so that they can try and trace the leak.

Gut feel though by the KTM dudes it that it is the base gaskets, and if this is the case, then I will have to rethink this bike in a big way.

A. I can either just replace the base gasket and move on hoping that the bike is good to go.

B. I can replace the gasket, sell her to try and recoup some money and buy a new bike, but I will be a good few thousand ZARS in the red.

C. Bite the bullet, when the engine is open, do a full refresh of the motor. The only issue the price tag associated with this decision, and it is a price I do not think I am willing to pay.

So by end of next week I will have a better idea of where I stand.

BUT

Screw this chop who I bought the bike from (To be fair he only had the bike for a few months and put around 400km on her), but more so the guy who he bought the bike from.....unless when he sold the bike to the guy I bought the bike from and declared the issues with the bike (Current and previous ones I have sorted out).

Jeeze, sorry to read this. I have a bit of an interest in a 950 in Josie at a dealer……..lots of rands though……then I take my T7 on some trips and wonder why I still feel the need for the earlier Katoom…..and I am a Katoom fan boy!

Certainly sounds like it. Mine is similar…..encouraging my bike purchases, well, to a point! She still thinks we need a yellow Ducati to go with the red 1098 and Matt Black “dark” 749.

Never know, you and your brother may just form something special over the upcoming ralley that keeps the two of you coming back, and keeping the the family in the race/ride/event

I lost my Mom during Covid, not from Covid but I believe as a result of the isolation from friends when she was ill from an unrelated issue….so Covid, anyways, it has brought my brother and I closer together. He is looking to do his bike license and I hope wevan ride together some day.  Hope you and your boet can be involved together in the bike way.

So I decided I need to try motorcycle camping…. Eeisshhhh, okay, was great, but my choice of destination was perhaps a bit much…. I left home for the Roggeland plateau and Sterland Camping. It was a good 400 kms, Kamanassie road to Oudsthoorn then the tar to Seweweekspoort with a lekker breaky at Bella de Karoo on the R62. Dirt to Laingsburg and a bit more to the Sutherland road. In camp and fire on by 1730………..and the cold set in……OMG, the kipsack was not up to it. Tonight was due to be colder, so I broke camp and road down to the Tankwa via Ouberg Pass…..that was a huge work up with a loaded bike! Travelled via an exceptional dirt road to the Maitjiesfontein road then dirt to Laingsburg again. Tonight in a hotel in Prince Alfred, no camping until I upgreade the kipsack!!IMG_1242.jpeg.70228f1f1686fd5e303d353dc7b9672c.jpegIMG_1243.jpeg.319d99f3998ee19151d3b7c11069b189.jpegIMG_1244.jpeg.01dea05002cc68f5c66e5041a399b189.jpegIMG_1246.jpeg.998a1ac2f2d7f9d4a17bdd7a88e99d56.jpegIMG_1248.jpeg.46f367f90ade52faa38f7cc13da52d12.jpegIMG_1250.jpeg.c0368c1427182ffe6114c955b7d0f12f.jpegIMG_1251.jpeg.f4ea2343ef4a3040775950b5234d1bbe.jpegIMG_1254.jpeg.757def53ab5a12b274f6a9c2dd668d26.jpeg

Sorry to hear.

these 950s are awesome machines but do require a lot of maintenance these days. Hopefully it’s the cheaper fix. fuel pumps are known weak points on these so maybe it’s been changed before and the o rings not properly seated or something.  Mate of mine had one, whenever we went on safari he always carried a spare fuel pump. Just one of those things.

if it’s the base gaskets, how bad is the leak? If it’s sweating just leave it as it is and ride it. I had a duke 690 that sweated a tad on the base gasket…just cleaned it every now and again and rode it as is.

The fuel pump has been replaced with an upgraded unit that resolved the ex. KTM fuel pump issues (Thank fully).

It is more of  a sweat I would say, so a drop or two after a decent ride.

I am two rides down now, and there is still no oil on the white paper I am placing under the bike.

There is no compression at the base gasket. I would ride it as it is. Don’t spend the coin. Enjoy the bike.

Cool, will keep an eye on the sweat and rev it like a rental

The result of 4 x rides over the weekend where the engine gets up to temp and sustains the temp for a good while.

Ignore the oil saturated in the old garage floor ... this is a project for Dec. holidays to clean and probably paint.

At least this way you know that when it stops dripping you need to top up the oil....

Will check the levels every other ride, or when I fill up (Which is very often on the 950)
