I managed to get the black nut off and I got to the bearing. It was completely dry and needs to be replaced.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Much appreciated

Pull the freehub off and use the 2 nuts marked 3 as your double nuts.

You are in any case going to have to take the freehub off.

To take the freehub off you nee a 11mm allen key. To take out the axle loosen all the nuts and with a small hit from the non driver side the axle will come out on the driver side

Just a tip. Always take photos of the assembled unit before taking it apart. Always help if you struggle to put it back together

You may as well replace both bearings while you're at it.......

well done on the work so far, interested to see how this pans out

sorry for the hijack but this is why i love hope kit. easy full breakdown service with a rag and rubber mallet only. oh and replacement bearings if needed of coarse.

Seems pointless to do a half job... strip it, clean it, get new bearings, clean and grease new bearings, and install everything again.

And you might as well do the same for the freehub if it is serviceable.

The Hope tools and a blind bearing puller help a lot...... :)

Problem with Hope hubs is that you service them more than they need to be serviced...
