My local bike shop arranged the prescription lenses from Rudy Project. Not cheap & had to wait ages 'cos I ordered just before Italy shut down for their summer holiday but am very happy with them (but luckliy my prescription has hardly changed in years).

Even with severe astigmatism, I managed to get some contacts that work a charm.

Oakley glasses keep the dust out. Best decision I made.

If you can use multi focal lenses, go for it!

Chro mo, what brand of contacts do you use? I struggle with serious astigmatism myself and thats the reason why I went the Rudy way although it will be verrrrrry nice to be without glasses again.

Rudy Project do a full prescription lens or an insert, VERY expensive option outright, although will probably be cheaper than continuous cost of a contact lens

My problem with contact lenses are when one is doing very dusty mtb riding because the dust + contacts doesn't work well together. I've tried it before but struggled with getting the right contact lenses for my astigmatism problem.

I had terrible astigmatism that corrected it self. Tried lots of contacts but in the end coopervision biofinity monthlies work the best. Dust is not an issue at all. I limit my contact use to 8 to 12 hours max a day. Blink a lot and if it gets bad. Optive eyedrops work a charm. Give them a try. Also get some trials from an optometrist. At R1200 to R1700 for a years lenses its waaaaaay cheaper than glasses.

Hi, Bennie

I use the Acuvue Oasys brand. They are very comfortable when I m wearing sunglasses, but can be a bit irritating in air conditioning after a prolonged period.

I tend to use them outside the office and on the beach etc.

I may try another brand when this set runs out.

The technology is there now that addresses astigmatism. My vision, for the first time in my life, is almost perfect without glasses.

Brave new world indeed!

Good luck.

As an optician I will only recommend 2 options for sport use in multifocal/progressive addition lenses, and that is in order of preference and quality:

1. Zeiss Sport range of progressives - they are really without peer.

2. Oakley progressive lenses.

Anything else does not even come close and are potentially risky.

I could give a boring optics lesson, but trust me, they are the only ones I would even consider.

Recently got glasses and quote for my Rudy's was around 5k. Considering it, but as a 1st time glasses wearer (can't see far well) how long would it generally be before I'd need to have new lenses made for the Rudy's?

I'm considering disposable contact lenses for trail running, what do these go for?

WW - consider a set of something like these - RX frames for a bit less than most... They also have frames that use optical inserts for fairly small change.

You are probably looking at new lenses every 2 - 3 years, depends how your eyes deteriorate...

I wear glasses 17hours per day. I am also looking into getting Rx sunnies to ride with - the sun and dust is killing me. I am leaning towards a cheaper alternative frame-wise. I don't want to feel too sorry for them when I drop them, or when the bike drops me!

I came across another site (smartbuyglasses, I think) that offer to have Rx made for you on practically any full-rim set they have.

Has anyone dealt with them before? Trustworthy?
