I run Flow EX on my DH bike ...

The Wife has Arch EX on her 650B Enduro Bike

For 99% of SA trails the Arch is more than strong enough for most riders - The Flows are overkill for Trail or XC

Not for the boys in the 100+kg range... they can break just about anything...

I ran Race Gold's for over a year on some pretty rough stuff, World Cup XC course and even the odd Enduro and never had to touch them but then I'm not saying what I weigh. :whistling:

I think it's more about how you ride vs weight up to a point.

True - you don't destroy kit when you push your bike around obstacles...

Slight hijack: I've been doing research for a new wheel-set and Arch on Hope or Sun Ringle has been stand out for my purposes so far.

Anything else I should be looking at in the same strength / quality line that could be better value?

I'm in the same position and decided on WTB KOM rims (with hope hubs).

Why? Read a number of reviews, weight and advise from 2 reputable wheelbuilders.

Hi Louis

How about updating it with the Valor's and Race Gold's now available.

Anyone done something similar for hub's?

I have Flows on Hopes on my steel 29er SS.

I have just around 8000km on the wheels and haven't had to touch them with a spoke wrench. I am an aggressive rider and ride these wheels very hard. I run low pressures and often tap a rim on rocks with NO damage whatsoever.

They are weighty, but nothing on my bike is light.

That is luck rather than rim strength (or you don't ride quite as hard as you think you do)

Mmm. I'm also about 110kg with kit. Arch or Flow then? Decisions decisions.

I'm starting to understand how I managed to destroy my one Alexrims MD19 & why the other one needs so much love from the spoke wrench.

much to my horror I have now taken the time to discover that there is a supposed/suggested weight limit on Crest 29 wheels. good thing I have been oblivious to this fact for the last 2 years while my 105kgs of man beef took on everthing from xco to stage races and the whole kzn enduro series on a set of crest on hopes.....

Funny thing is I am less gung ho about fitting them again mind you....time for some arch ex me thinks.

Exactly why the FRM is a better option... 95kg rider weight limit and same weight as a Crest.

Its not just about the Rim. Its also how it is built. Get someone who knows what they doing to build them.

Running Flow EX and Novatec hubs, super damn strong so no more breaking spokes for me,and being wider externally and internally the tire holds up a lot better.

mmmmmm that 95kg weight limit still leaves me 10kg shy of my actual weight which is 105kg LOL
