Yea....agreed. I want the real conditions.

ok...but then you wait a full 12 months. it's no sunday picnic in sep, you still got to do that 3000m altitude on day 1. etc etc.

glenn is riding with rigid steel bike, and a hub dynamo.and going fast. pics of his ride on earlier pages in this thread.

 But that is Glenn !! SS would definitely be the preferred mode of transport but I will definitely put a suspension fork on . Any comments on using touring type bags ? That stuff you put on the back .

I am sure its still moer hard, but like the other said, would rather want to experience "the real deal" so to speak. Also being 12 months away gives you time to plan, hype up, buy cool stuffs

Great stuff....my ss donkey it will be then...might put gears on for this outing. luckily I gots paragon drops for both SS and gears

I wont lie....i am feeling the same...maybe i will dip my toe in the water and do the R2R before committing to the full monty next year.

My biggest fear is the navo part....with my skills i might end up in maputo or something. Also its seems the prep is half of the fun of this event. It not a case of getting to the startline with 2 bottles of game and a gel

Come ride with me next year. Pretty sure Percyzn will be there too...

Done!.....lots of questions coming your way before next year if you dont mind sir

Stupid question but would a rigid fork be suicide for this?

For the first time - Yes. Ride with a suspension fork and a lower ratio gear range than normal. You don't want to stop to recover from big hauls. You want to be going through the big hauls easier and then continue riding after them, spinning and resting. The more you keep moving the better.

I considered pannier packs - not ideal IMO. You portage a fair amount and a backpack actually assist with carrying the bike (takes some of the pressure and weight). There's also a fair amount of "tight" riding - through worn out, deep paths; thick forest sections - pannier bags would get bashed around if not get you stuck. Split the load between a backpack and good frame bags.

you guys will make memories of a lifetime - RTR needs only a week or so off work, seems like you have most of the stuff you need, less is better

refer Ryanpmb and Percyzn, they got excited last year and this year they did a brilliant ride to Rhodes - think they enjoyed all the prep as much as the ride

We planned our ride so we actually only needs 3 days off, but as Tubed says at most a week. The prep is the most fun - learning the route, planning what to take, getting some unique equipment...

I read this document and get the feeling that you will be able to navigate by using this . But maybe we will get more feedback from the people who are using those directions this year .

We started our journey (prep) with only narratives and maps. And our maps weren't these nice new ones! You get by, definately get lost, but you find your way. If you follow the narratives and the odometer guidelines you can get away with no maps. This would take FOREVER though as you'll constantly be stopping, checking distance and narrative. Learn the maps in conjunction with these - you'll have a much better understanding of where you are, which is important when you're lost... being lost and having no idea where you are and being lost and being able to place yourself because you recognise your surroundings and landscape are two very different things. I've been in both scenerios - the latter is preferable ;)

They mention excessive use of alcohol in the rules , I am sure nobody would be to upset if you replace your morning coffee with a OB ?? making coffee waste a lot of time :whistling:

Can we please get some updates on RASA Racing Snakes. Glenn is my brother so keen to know where he is.

Thanks

Dean

Jumpertrax shows Glenn about to arrive in Rhodes with Tim somewhere towards the top of Lehanas (maybe just over)... Not sure how accurate this is...
