Which reminds me - make the diesel light enough and it will give petrol a run for its money, especially on the uphills.

I was the same , i could taste blood the 1st 10-15km then I upped my training and got lighter both bike and me , now I all is good

And those diesel Audis that beat the crap out of all the petrol rockets at Le Mans a few years back :thumbup: :thumbup:

 

2006 - 2013 and going strong, except for 2009 which was won by a Peugot diesel.

I believe 2014 is this coming weekend.

get a road bike and join a club with super strong riders and try to hang on, this changed how I ride, I joined Velo a few years back and couldn't hold on, now (well not at the moment, been off for a few months) but I can dish out the pain as well - its the surges you need to be able to hold onto, you can simulate this on the IDT or in training on hills, but when you are out there, you have to push so much harder and sometimes so much longer to hold on... your MAX becomes much higher when you have to hold a wheel..

 

Forget the road bike, get a track bike and join the evening sessions for some proper intervals, with the bonus that you can train and stay dry in winter.

And how do I turn a high revving V12 motor into a torque Diesel?

 

At the Darling Brew my avh HR was 172bpm, with max 186bpm over a 3:30 period. This for a guy fast approaching 50yrs in age.

One of my best races was the 2002 94.7. I had to ride 20kms in less than an hour along Allandale Rd to go and fetch my race number from a friend who was brining it to me through the traffic jams. By the time I snuck late into my start chute I was pretty damn warm. The usual fast starting of the A group felt like nothing and I was able to get into a 20 man break group. I finished inside the top 250 overall under 2h30 iirc.

 

So yes. Do a proper warm up, not just ride around the parking lot and up the road a bit. If you do train intervals, also do a proper warm up at least 15 minutes.

Perhaps it's in the' jeans' and you'll never have a 'turbo', not saying you can't get better but sometimes we just have to accept our limitations

 

I have no idea how many more times it has to be drummed in, but alas, the genetic feature is but a myth, something that only exists in the mind of the realist.

OK so that takes care of the first 20k's then what :cursing: :ph34r:

hahahahha suig gels under a thornbush or the classic....I pulled a hammy / quad / calf or a quick deflate of your tyre and blame a cut sidewall.

 

Think of all the things that can go wrong on your bike....yes they are all excuses. :ph34r:
